The human heart is not filled by accumulating experiences, possibilities, or temporary guarantees; it is filled when it discovers a call, when it understands that life reaches fullness only if it is given. Following Christ does not impoverish existence, but expands it. #ApostolicJourney
On this day in 1944 Amon Carter presented FDR with the deed to the land that would become Big Bend National Park. Famously FDR had nothing else going on June 6, 1944, which you can tell from his extremely relaxed demeanor
Artificial intelligences do not undergo experiences, do not possess a body, do not feel joy or pain, do not mature through relationships, and do not know from within what love, work, friendship or responsibility mean. Nor do they have a moral conscience, since they do not judge good and evil, grasp the ultimate meaning of situations, or bear responsibility for consequences. They may imitate or even simulate, but they do not understand what they produce, for they lack the affective, relational, and spiritual perspective through which human beings grow in wisdom. #MagnificaHumanitas
"We must, then, avoid the 'Babel syndrome,' namely the idolatry of profit that sacrifices the weak, a uniformity that neutralizes differences, and the pretense that a single language — even a digital one — can translate everything, including the mystery of the person, into data and performance."
Humanity, created by God in all its grandeur, is today facing a pivotal choice: either to construct a new Tower of Babel or to build the city in which God and humanity dwell together. In Jesus Christ, this humanity in its grandeur becomes the Way, the Truth and the Life, opening the path for each of us to grow toward fullness. #MagnificaHumanitas

The jackals in the machine are really mad.
Be at peace.
As Catholics we pray for the Holy Father, the country, and the world; we bear no ill will.
We ask for grace to hear the Voice of Christ the Good Shepherd in Scripture, Tradition and the patient ministry of Peter’s successor.

CHILD PRAYING MANTIS: Dad, who are we all praying to exactly?
DAD PRAYING MANTIS: Depends which religion you belong to
CHILD: So not all bugs follow the same religion?
DAD: No, son… we’re in sects
President Trump has, oddly, accused Pope Leo XIV of being "weak on crime," as if the Vicar of Christ were a mayor or a governor. Here's someone else who would probably be criticized for being too lenient with criminals, even promising one a place a heaven:
One of the criminals who were hanged there kept deriding him and saying, “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other rebuked him, saying, “Do you not fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? And we indeed have been condemned justly, for we are getting what we deserve for our deeds, but this man has done nothing wrong.” Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” He replied, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
(Luke 23)
In many ways, American Catholicism seems to be led by people who who’ve never worked in the church for very long if at all.
Most of these leaders are influencers, podcast stars, and professional opinion makers.
You can tell they’ve never really worked in a church because they’re very busy fighting all these dragons that have very little influence in anyone’s daily life.
They want you scared and angry at sins of others, they want you paranoid about all leadership (except their leadership) and they fail to mention those defining sins that tear churches apart: gossip being primary.
In the end, if you want to absolutely transform the life of a catholic community, you go to war with gossip. You go to war with pride. You teach people how to have daily personal prayer.
How many of these “leaders” talk about these things?
Alas, our social leaders don’t talk about these things because it would challenge you and I to personal conversion.
The irony, of course being that they claim they want spiritual leadership from their Priest and Bishops.
They do not want spiritual leadership, they don’t wish to be led anywhere except deeper into their personal convictions.
I know it’s terribly “Old Testament,” and bishops generally censure Catholic preachers who relate contemporary cataclysms to divine judgment, but there are times when I quietly wonder.
2 downed drones hit our Chaldean convent & apartment building in our Christian quarter of Anakwa. The latter was funded by Knights of Columbus to house the displaced by ISIS. 12 years later more displacement/collateral damage. The cycle of violence becomes shorter & shorter.
