Sad to hear the passing of one of my biggest supporters. Cliff drafted me in 1981 and showed tremendous patience with a young player who still had a lot to learn.
I was thrilled to see him achieve his professional goal of winning the Stanley Cup with the @NHLFlames in 1989.
My heartfelt condolences to Cliffs family , friends and everyone whose lives he touched. RIP 🙏
Cliff Fletcher, the first general manager of the Flames, has passed away at the age of 90.
Cliff served as GM from inception with Atlanta in 1972 through May 1991.
He oversaw the team’s move to Calgary in 1980 and was the architect of the team’s 1989 Stanley Cup title.
