Can AI inference actually work as proof of work?
Fair challenge: good proof of work needs to be verifiable, deterministic, resistant to unfair parallelization. AI inference wasn't built around those constraints.
So how do you reconcile useful compute with consensus security?
Break inference into verifiable tiles. Matrix multiplication is the core operation behind most AI workloads, individual tiles can serve as the proof, submitted once they meet a difficulty threshold. Work that isn't cleanly deterministic gets handled through a side channel instead of forced into a shape it doesn't fit.
That's the compute side. The harder problem is trust: how do you know the work actually happened, correctly, without re-running it yourself?
This is where AMA's existing approach carries over. We already use TEEs for private computation with hardware attestation, agents run inside a trusted execution environment, and the chain gets a cryptographic proof that the code ran, and ran as claimed.
ZK is the link that connects deterministic AI to the chain. It lets you prove on-chain that a TEE ran, and that a specific output was produced, without exposing the computation itself or paying the cost of full on-chain verification.
Useful proof of work isn't a solved problem. But it's not starting from zero either, it's built on infrastructure AMA already runs today.
