Some absolute filth from the Rule 5 draft pick. After an impressive Spring and first couple starts, Smith could be in line for a breakout season for the White Sox 📶

His line today:

6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K’s on 83 Pitches 🔥

[Rob Friedman @PitchingNinja]

Shane Smith's 2Ks in the 6th.

One of the best days of the year! ⚾️ #OpeningDay

This will get the crowd up in arms.

19th consecutive sell out*

[Marc Topkin @TBTimes_Rays]

#Rays just announced Friday’s home opener vs. #Rockies is sold out. Capacity at Steinbrenner Field is 10,046. This marks 19th consecutive season Rays have sold out their home opener.

Ryan Johnson has made the Angels opening day roster without spending a day in the minors. He had an impressive outing yesterday where he struck out 4 in 2 innings of work and has looked great all spring.

Johnson has a deep pitch mix with a funky delivery, he leads with his slider which sits 80-81 with 13 inches of sweeping action which led to a 53% whiff rate in college. He equips that along with his sinker, four-seam FB and cutter which led to a productive junior year where he broke out posting an 2.21 ERA in 106 innings. He struck out 151 batters while only walking 14.

His control is very impressive and he should stick as a starter long term, but most likely will start in the pen the start the year. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in LA this year!

Here’s Johnson getting Ohtani looking at a cutter 👀
