Rwanda 🇷🇼 plans to invest up to $6 billion in nuclear power as part of a long-term strategy to strengthen electricity supply and support economic growth. President Paul Kagame announced this during a global nuclear energy summit in Paris, outlining the country’s ambition to secure reliable energy for industry and development.

The project will focus on small modular reactors, a safer and more flexible technology suited for countries building nuclear capacity for the first time. Officials say the investment will expand electricity generation to meet rising demand as Rwanda industrializes and modernizes its economy.

Rwanda aims to have its first nuclear power plant operational around 2030, advancing its vision of becoming a high-income economy by 2050.
