Well, I can officially announce I’ve received an NSF CAREER award to do my life’s work. “Designing, Developing, and Evaluating Consent Technologies to Reduce Unwanted Interpersonal Behavior.” Excited to do this work at @UMFlint! https://t.co/786Zv8uaTV
#CHI2025 has officially ended and I couldn’t be prouder of my students for representing @UMF_CIT at their very first research conference! They won an Honorable Mention award for their paper on affirmative consent and competed in the student design competition.
Delighted that our #chi2025 paper on affirmative consent won an Honorable Mention award! This whole paper came about from an audience question at CHI 2023 while presenting some of our other research on sexual consent technology. Pre-print: https://t.co/ijjm21NkOq
Affirmative consent is dead—according to our latest #CHI2025 paper. "Yes Means Yes" sounds simple, but when we asked users how it should actually work in VR and online dating to prevent unwanted behavior, they told us: it doesn’t.

🌟Come to join our hybrid #CHI2025 workshop to explore actionable solutions to mitigate new harms in immersive and embodied virtual spaces!

Ever wonder/worry about the role of generative AI in nonconsensual sexual activity? I collaborated with some wonderful people on a commentary piece for the journal Family Relations that is out now! https://t.co/ww1fF9iKIk
Submission deadline is this Friday, February 28! Come to join our #CHI2025 workshop to work together on actionable solutions to mitigate new harms in immersive and embodied virtual spaces!
Are you - or do you know - an undergraduate student who is looking for a paid research position this summer? The application page for our NSF REU site for digital accessibility research is live! https://t.co/lrsVslsQHx
We had an inspiring, insightful, and even hilarious panel on “New Opportunities, Risks, and Harm of Generative AI for Fostering Safe Online Communities” at #Group2025. 🌟 The conversation continued with lively discussions during the poster reception. Great energy and ideas!#ACM
With #cscw2024 now behind us, I can say my favorite memory was watching @mah_alizadeh present her work about algorithmic harms on Tinder. She’s worked so hard on this research, and we finally had the opportunity to celebrate it in Costa Rica!
One of my favorite #CSCW2024 presentations! @DZytko did an excellent job presenting their work on user interactions with risk detection #AI to prevent online-to-offline harm in #dating apps. Check out their fantastic research: https://t.co/RbgK65xCoa
#cscw2024 folks: if you’re on the TT faculty job market (or hiring) we are hosting a lunch tomorrow (Tuesday) at the convention center. FREE lunch for first 20 ppl. Meet at front desk at 12:30 or DM me your lunch order. (Btw: we are hiring at @UMF_CIT!)
We’re hiring multiple tenure track positions again @UMFlint College of Innovation & Technology. Areas of focus: Information Systems, AI, Cybersecurity. Best workplace culture I’ve ever been in. AMA - I’m on the search committee! https://t.co/eGHM0UmU6o
One of my favorite collaborations is being published at @ACM_CSCW next month about perceived algorithmic harms and folk theories on Tinder. Really enjoyed working with Mahla and Motahhare on this paper! Pre-print: https://t.co/a5JKgjJSYA
3 of our undergrad researchers at @UMFlint have their first poster publication at @ACM_CSCW next month on social cross-reality harm in VR dating. Harm within VR is well documented, but what about harm that traverses VR into the physical world? Pre-print: https://t.co/FYqxslQYum
