Two #EmergeAlums are stepping into national leadership for Black women and girls! 🎉

Representatives @RepLaMonica and @lateefahsimon have been named new Co-Chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls in the 120th Congress, alongside Representative Shontel Brown (OH-11) and Representative Yvette D. Clarke (NY-09).

The Caucus was built to make sure Black women and girls are a priority in policy debates, from healthcare access to workplace protections to legislation like the Crown Act.

Come celebrate with us! 🎉 The Young Leaders Cabinet and Black Leadership Circle are co-hosting a Club Emerge Happy Hour in honor of Emerge President and CEO A'shanti Gholar, with emcee Elizabeth Booker Houston @booker_squared!

This year marks A'shanti's 10th year with Emerge and 6th as President and CEO. Under her leadership, Emerge has become the nation's largest network of women elected officials and candidates, expanded its reach to all 50 states and territories, and launched programs like Seated Together and Gavel In that are changing what leadership looks like for Black women and aspiring judges across the country.

Voters in Virginia will have the final say on protecting reproductive freedom, marriage equality, and voting rights for formerly incarcerated people this November.

#Emergealum state Sen. Jennifer Boysko championed the reproductive freedom amendment, in order to protect deeply personal decisions “without fear of government interference or criminal punishment.”

One-third of Virginia’s state legislators as well as Gov. Abigail Spanberger are all Emerge alums.

Molly Gray has already served as Assistant Attorney General, led humanitarian efforts around the world, and spent her career fighting for affordable childcare, paid leave, housing, and rural communities.

Amanda Janoo was born and raised in rural Vermont, and has spent her career helping governments build stronger, more resilient economies.

Together, they’re running to make housing, living, and healthcare costs more affordable and accessible for everyday Vermont families and communities. This powerhouse duo has what it takes to win the general, and we can’t wait to show Vermont what Emerge-trained leadership looks like at every level. 💪🍁

Monday was Labor Day, so we want to continue the celebration by spotlighting three #EmergeAlums who represent and show up for workers every single day. Unions do not happen without organizing, and neither does change.

So, here are 3 Emerge alums who are proudly pro-union and putting in the work:

💪 Tiffany Koyama Lane is a proud union leader in the Portland Association of Teachers, where she has served as both Lead External Organizer and a member of the Bargaining Steering Committee. She's united with all Portland teachers in the fight for safe classrooms and buildings, smaller class sizes, and manageable caseloads for school social workers and specialists.

💪 @VeniseKarris is a 30-year member of IBEW Local 357, and carries that firsthand understanding of union power into her role as a Nevada Assemblymember, fighting for an economy that works for everyone.

💪 @mariafornevada is a Southwest flight attendant and shop steward with Transport Workers Union Local 556, and she rarely shows up to a meeting, action, or rally without her "support your flight attendants" lanyards. She always stands ready to fight for better worker protections.

We are heartbroken by the passing of Gloria Steinem, a trailblazer whose courage and vision transformed the fight for women’s equality and reproductive freedom.

Gloria was a cherished member of the Emerge family. As a member of our Advisory Board, she was a steadfast supporter of our mission and believed deeply in the power of women to lead and create change. We are profoundly grateful for her friendship, her wisdom, and the many ways she championed Emerge and the women we serve.

Gloria changed the world, and generations of women are stronger because of her. We will miss her dearly and carry her legacy forward in our work every day.

#EmergeAlum Congresswoman Lucy McBath (@RepLucyMcBath) is leading Georgia’s Democratic congressional delegation in urging Gov. Brian Kemp to participate in the federal Summer EBT program.

Kemp rejected the program for three consecutive years and vetoed $2 million in bipartisan state funding intended to bring Georgia into the program in 2027. More than 40% of Georgia’s 2.8 million children qualify for the program, which provides families $120 per eligible child to help cover groceries while school is out. “Summer EBT is one of the simplest tools we have to prevent child hunger,” McBath said.

This year, a record 590 women filed to run for the U.S. House, and according to new data from the Center for American Women and Politics at Rutgers University (@CAWP_RU), 45 of those candidates are Emerge alums!

That means nearly 8% of all women who ran for the House this cycle were trained by Emerge.
