I don’t wanna go into specifics but we should all know it is and evidently difficult to even exist online as a woman without facing harassment. If someone is uncomfortable in a community, that community should try to address what is happening to make that individual uncomfortable
The fact that so many responses to the elhermano situation obfuscated and downplayed proved the underlying problem. Women are telling us that this behavior is harmful and that it’s emblematic of broader issues in the community.
LISTEN. BELIEVE THEM. Be a part of the solution.
Also, huge shout out to Emily. She called out something that needed attention. She did it knowing the backlash would come. She accepted that trade off to try to make the community a better, safer space. That’s leadership, and we’re so lucky to have her.
I really hope that the takeaway isnt just the fact that this guy is a terrible individual, and thats why everyone should care.
Myself included, men need to take the time to learn why these kinds of “jokes” are harmful BEFORE this kind of evidence surfaces.
If the next time this happens and you don’t care until a document comes out outting an individual’s character behind closed doors, then what would happen if there was no evidence of them being a problematic individual outside of these kinds of jokes?
What helped me understand this better was to stop evaluating the intent, but evaluating the social distribution of cost.
Elhermano posting“Looking for a TFT girlfriend (serious)” bears none but a woman bears all of it (if she’s not into it he’s joking, but if she’s into it he means it). While he’s given a free exit, she has to decide in real time whether to laugh, ignore, or object, and every option has a downside. That’s decidable from the tweet alone, with zero knowledge of elhermano’s character.
I want to quote something I found that I thought was really insightful:
“Cliff Jerrison coined the phrase “missing stair” to refer to an individual recognized as a problem within in a community, but treated and managed as a feature of it. You just have to teach yourself to leap over that part of the staircase. The problem with this conflict-avoidant approach, Jerrison explained, is that not everyone lives in this particular house with the missing stair. The people familiar with it know how to avoid falling victim; the outsider does not. And they get hurt”

As a woman who works on TFT, I’ve spent tonight reading things about my own community that make me want to put my fist through a wall.
Let’s be clear about what happened here. Women said they were hurt…and the response from parts of this community was to laugh, to relitigate, to demand receipts, to treat “was she uncomfortable” as an interesting debate topic. It isn’t and never was.
Women build this game. Women play this game, millions of them. Millions. And the message being sent today is that you’re welcome here right up until the moment you say something happened to you.
To the men reading this: your silence is a position. It is not neutral. It has never been neutral. Every time you let it slide in a lobby, in a Discord, in a group chat, in a reply…you encourage this behavior. It cannot keep being women’s full-time job to explain why they’d like to not be harassed.
To Emily and to every woman who spoke up and got buried for it: I see you. You told the truth even when it was hard and people were absolutely horrible. Thank you for all your courage in speaking up.
If anyone is ever at an event and something feels off, find me. Find any of us. You are not overreacting, you are not being dramatic. You have people in your corner.
@MilkTFT@Sarsarcha You’re 1 of 1, Milk. You’ll be missed, but I’m excited to see what you wind up doing with your life. Feels like you can excel at whatever you put your mind to.
“I really want people to think that after I retire […] people think that I was top 5 of all. Not just…'unlucky, we lost a streamer.' ”

We're getting closer to that reality.
@Mortdog You gave so much of yourself to make this amazing game exist and thrive. So many lives are the better for it in so many ways. On behalf of all of us, thank you!
Sucks to go out that way but this team was still a major step forward for US soccer. Excited to see where we go from here. GGs to Belgium, way better team today.
@RaiderJay_BBB Group wasn’t that soft. They showed more than any team ever has imo. Sometimes in sports you just implode. Doesn’t take away from what they did before.
