The EAC is set to officially launch the national consultations in the Republic of South Sudan on the drafting of the Constitution of the EAC Political Confederation.

🔹The consultations provide an opportunity for citizens and stakeholders to share their views on how the Political Confederation should be structured, governed and how it can best serve the people of East Africa.

📍 Consultations will be held in Juba, Wau, Rumbek and Bor from 24 September to 7 October 2026.

☘️ The Political Confederation is a transitional model towards the ultimate goal of a Political Federation of the EAC and is intended to provide a framework for deeper political cooperation, coordination and governance among EAC Partner States.

In his remarks, Dr Vincent Fred Ssenono urged the institutions to use the tablets strictly for statistical purposes to generate high-quality data to facilitate Uganda’s development process. Reaffirming the commitment made by @UBOS_ED, he pledged the Bureau’s full technical support towards operationalising the Statistical Unit established at the Council’s Secretariat.

📌 EAC Total trade reached USD 52.3 billion, up 37% compared with Q2 2025.

🔹 Exports rose by 41.3% to USD 26.3 billion, while imports increased by 32.9% to USD 26.0 billion, resulting in a USD 0.3 billion trade surplus.

🔹 Exports to African markets grew by 44.3% to USD 7.2 billion, while intra-EAC exports increased by 33.2% to USD 3.2 billion.

🟤 China remained the region’s largest individual export destination and source of imports. Exports to China nearly doubled to USD 10.7 billion, while imports rose to USD 7.1 billion.

☘️ The UAE and South Africa were also major export destinations, while India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, the United States and Japan were among the leading sources of imports.

In 2024, the EAC hosted an estimated 6.49 million international migrants, about 2% of the Community's population. Women represented 51.7% of the migrant population.

Good migration data ensures people are visible in policy and planning. #EACStatistics

As of 2025, the East African Community was home to approximately 350 million people.

🔹 50.7% were female
🔹 43.8% were below 15 years
🔹 77.5% were below 35 years
🔹 53.1% were of working age (15–64 years)
🔹 4.8% were aged 60 years and above
