J is for (Sophia) Jex-Blake who was one of the first female medical students at Edinburgh University and campaigned for women to be allowed to train in hospitals. She opened the Edinburgh Provident Dispensary for Women and Children in 1878 #ArchiveZ

Jessie MacLaren MacGregor was born #onthisday in 1863. Jessie was one of the first women to be awarded a Medical Degree from the University of Edinburgh in 1899. She went on to hold posts in Sick Kids and Bruntsfield Hospital before emigrating to Colorado (Ref: GD1/53/2/2)
