Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth is the Speaker of the 12th @Parliament_Ug after defeating Hon. Norbert Mao and Paul Mwiru in the contest for the position of Speaker.
Oboth was declared winner by Chief Justice, Dr Flavian Zeija. Election for Deputy Speaker is now underway.
The 12th Parliament commences it’s first sitting, wherein the lawmakers will elect Speaker and Deputy Speaker. The sitting is taking place at Kololo ceremonial grounds.

It’s the final day of @MPsSwearIn2026. After today, the 12th @Parliament_Ug will kick off, with the first plenary sitting being election of Speaker & Deputy Speaker. In the coming months, the legislators will undergo orientation, induction & will be designated to committees.
Day two of @MPsSwearIn2026 is underway. Upon taking Oath of allegiance and Oath of an MP, the Legislators are given the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of Parliament. These are essential tools that will enable and guide the MPs in executing their constitutional mandate.

Swearing in of MPs-elect to the 12th @Parliament_Ug starts. The lawmakers are taking Oath of allegiance and Oath of an MP. Oath of MP is mandatory & legally binding. It is taken before an MP assumes office as mandated by Article 81(4).
