It is with heavy hearts we mourn the loss of an exceptional teacher, scholar, and friend. Johanna's legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.
2️⃣ On fol. 5v, we have an English gloss to 'espreche' ['stretch'] that looks very similar to the French, but it doesn't appear to be attested in the MED. (Context: 'Apres dormer il se espreche' / 'After sleeping, he stretches out')
1️⃣ Our first is from fol. 5r, glossing the French 'derechef' ['once again '] in the line 'Tachez vos botouns, et pur derechef' ['Do up your buttons, and once again ...']. The context, as you may guess, is that the imagined student is heading outside!
Middle English fans: we need your help! We're working with a particularly tricky manuscript of Bibbesworth's 'Tretiz' - @BLMedieval, MS Harley 740 - and have a couple of glosses to the French text that are eluding our attempts at deciphering them. Suggestions? Thread below ... ⬇️
