Delhi keeps telling itself the smog is a “winter problem.” But this March, a drone study by @iitdelhi coordinated by Asst. Prof @ahlawat_aa, found a 240,000 kg blanket of toxic PM2.5 hanging above the city, @ 60% worse at 100m than at street level.
We’re not breathing cleaner air. We’re just not measuring it properly.
A shallow morning boundary layer (sometimes just 50–200m) traps traffic exhaust, waste burning fumes and industrial emissions like a lid. By the time the sun lifts it, the damage is done.
Ground monitors miss the full story, the sky above is doing chemistry we barely track. If peak hour traffic makes up 40–50% of PM2.5, sprinklers and “smog towers” won’t cut it. This is a systemic emissions problem, not a visibility problem.
Maybe it’s time we stop reacting to winter headlines and start cutting pollution at the source; all year round!
