It’s unbelievable once you notice it. The genres that tend to get more granular discussions like this are usually lacking prominent stories (e.g. arcadey) or multiplayer games, and with multiplayer games those discussions tend to center around patch/nerf whining more than a holistic analysis of what the game is actually doing. People complain about “gameplay loop” and “friction” becoming overused terms but in a way it’s been nice because it’s given people some tools to discuss the sensory arc that (good) games set out to provide

One weird thing about these types is that they often have issues accepting their own aging as well, like the people younger than them make them feel older and they chimp as a result. Hating the youth while wanting to remain young themselves. Seen in boomers but also a certain type of millennial
