Yesterday, President ED Mnangagwa officially commissioned the Zimplats Expanded Smelter and Solar Plant.
The smelter can process 380 000 tonnes of concentrates per year- three times Zimplats' previous smelting capacity.
The President also presented Community Share Ownership Trust certificates to traditional leaders.
*Why and how this is good news for Zimbabweans and beyond*
1. *It means Zimbabwe is Open for Business, Safe and Lucrative for Business*. That is why Zimplats joins the growing list of companies in Zimbabwe expanding their investments. There is no company that increases investment where its unsafe and unrewarding.
2. *Major industrial expansion*
The new 38 MW furnace triples the Selous Metallurgical Complex's smelting capacity, enabling it to refine ~380,000 tonnes of platinum-group metal concentrate annually. This marks a leap forward in Zimbabwe’s beneficiation of raw minerals .
It's part of a broader US$1.8 billion expansion—spanning 2021–2031—under a government–Zimplats MoU, designed to spur industrialisation .
3. *Energy self‑sufficiency & cost reduction*
The 35 MW solar plant—which is Phase 1 of a larger 185 MW renewable rollout—is already supplying about 8 % of Zimplats’ electricity needs .
Coupled with hydropower, Zimplats now sources roughly 88 % of its energy from renewables—dramatically lowering reliance on Zimbabwe’s unstable grid and expensive diesel-generated power .
4. *Environmental stewardship*
The solar project is a clean-energy initiative that supports Zimbabwe's climate commitments and reduces carbon footprint at a major industrial site .
5. *Economic & community benefits*
The solar plant (US$37 million investment) created at least 1,600 jobs during construction and promotes skills transfer to local youth .
Zimplats is also supporting local SMEs, and Community Shareholding Trusts, and broader rural industrialisation—aligning with the government’s Vision 2030 goals. This ensures local communities benefit from mining operations in their locality.
6. *Regional smelting hub potential*
The upgraded smelter is positioned to toll-refine concentrates from third parties, potentially transforming Zimbabwe into a regional platinum-refining powerhouse.
7. *Fruits of EDWORKS*
The benefits accruing from the Zimplats Expanded Smelter Plant and Solar Plant are a direct result of President ED Mnangagwa's visionary leadership and progressive policies which are business friendly therefore encouraging businesses to increase their investments in Zimbabwe.

We urgently need a shift from our current national psyche that everyone needs a degree to be considered educated/valuable. A lot of our technical college graduates have wasted the investment made in them by abandoning their skills development pursuing very strange degrees.
@MmusiMaimane We as Zimbabweans love our President @edmnangagwa . Our intention is to have him still as President in 2030. Long live President @edmnangagwa !
A man must have pride. And it is with that pride that a man will never beg another fellow man. It is that same pride that will tell a man not to depend on freebies or handouts. Everything he gets, he earns it
In recent times, modern men have become weak and ghey, they no longer have pride. There's this new trend of men being groupies, this culture of hanging around rich men, for some crumbs
It has gotten out of control to a point whereby the men are now fighting women to have access to these rich men. The modern men are now more of gold diggers than the women themselves. They will unashamedly beg on social media to these rich men, on their timelines or comment sections
They will do whatever it takes to get recognition by these rich men, hype them up, sing praises for them, do gestures for them, it is seriously out of control
Unbeknownst to them, these rich guys will be laughing at them, nothing is more pathetic than watching a grown ass man, behave like a b!tch for another man
Where is your pride as a man? How do you expect your woman to respect you when you're licking another man's ass? How do you expect your children to look up to you, when you're worshipping another man. Reclaim your pide, modern man
Learn OR perish!!!

The Western handled opposition has proven to be utterly useless and ineffectual. Within their ranks, there is clear unmitigated hunger for power, with no regard for hierarchical structure or adherence to constitutional principles. No one respects party elders.
From the inception of the MDC to subsequent splinter groups such as MDC Mutambara, MDC-T, MDC-Ncube, MDC-99 Sikhala, MDC Renewal, MDC Tsvangirai, PDP, MDC-Mangoma, MDC-Holland, PDP Matibenga, PDP Biti, MDC-T Chamisa, MDC-T Khupe, UMD - Lovemore Moyo, MDC Alliance - Chamisa, MDC Alliance - Khupe, and MDC - Mwonzora, the incessant factionalism has been evident.
With such disorder and lack of cohesion, they can never challenge ZanuPF even on its worst day.
It is gratifying to observe that Zimbabweans have consistently rejected these failures.
Politically, this means a lot,
• Turnout was going to be dismal, so to avoid embarrassment, he has called it quits.
• With the rains pouring, people are focusing on securing their food
• The police showed none partisanship
• CCC has become an insignificant minority!
Hon Prof. Mthuli Ncube made a commitment to continue ensuring internet connectivity for Cowdray Park constituency working hand in glove with Hon. A. Mujeyi. More so, the youth training program to continue unabated.
