In the late 1990s, Belarus delivered 12 MiG-23MLD and at least five MiG-23UB to Angola. Based on serial numbers, these airframes originated from Russia. The Russian Air Defense retired this platform in 1998, with these decommissioned units being transferred to Angola via Belarus.

Ethiopian MiG-21R (second-hand Soviet aircraft) preserved as a monument at Harar Meda / Debre Zeit Air Base, with MiG-21bis camouflage scheme and tactical numbers. The original Ethiopian MiG-21bis '1083' was shot down during the air strike on Asmara airport in June 1998.

-The WW2 152nd IAP ML/MLD information is incorrect. The 152nd IAP only operated the MiG-23M variant until 1992.
-There were no MiG-23Ps in the region. That variant was phased out of service at a later date.

In September 2023, the modernization of the North Korean Pukchang military airport began. Thirty-one MiG-23s flew to Kaech'on Airport, while seven non-airworthy MiG-23s remained at Pukchang AB. Several Shenyang FT-5 training aircraft (Two-seater MiG-17) also joined the MiG-23s.

All Cuban ML were manufactured in 1984. Among the Bulgarian and Libyan MLD aircraft serials. But these first four Cuban were only ML variant.
