In Canada the main rivalry for extravagant windows was between Simpson’s and Eaton’s – the largest department store in Canada at that time, and while they had mostly played it safe with store merchandise, in 1945 Eaton’s decided to play religiously themed carols. #toronto

Sadly we don't have any photos of the windows in the old days, but we did find this photo of a horse on Court Street in winter.
In the 1970s, it would have been completely normal to swing down to your local department store and pick up a can of motor oil. That's kind of weird to think about
