Our guest speaker at the IBAU CEO Breakfast Meeting, Trevor Ariho, CEO @LEAD_EA, delivered a compelling presentation on Corporate Governance: Emerging Local and International Trends, challenging insurance leaders to adopt a more future-focused approach to governance.
He emphasized that boards must move beyond reviewing past performance to actively anticipating emerging risks such as cyber threats, artificial intelligence, climate change, and reputational risks, while also identifying opportunities for innovation and growth.
Ariho further highlighted the importance of competence-based board appointments, strong board evaluations, and governance structures that are responsive to a rapidly evolving business environment.
He concluded by noting that the future will favor organizations whose boards are better at anticipating risk, with trust becoming the most valuable asset in corporate success.

Yesterday, the Uganda Insurers Association, together with the Ministry of Health, the Uganda Healthcare Federation, Smart Applications International and the Insurance Brokers Association of Uganda, hosted the Inaugural Stakeholder Dialogue on Medical Insurance at Four Points by Sheraton under the theme “Redefining Medical Insurance Service Delivery Through Digital Technology and Enhanced Professionalism.” The dialogue brought together policymakers, regulators, insurers, healthcare experts and innovators for a forward-looking conversation on strengthening Uganda’s medical insurance sector through digital transformation, enhanced professionalism and stronger collaboration.
UIA CEO Mr. Jonan Kisakye set the tone for the day, emphasizing that while the sector has grown, more work lies ahead. “Medical insurance penetration remains low, and we cannot ignore this reality if we are to unlock the industry’s full potential.”
Keynote Speaker Mr. Ernest Magezi Barusya, CEO of It is Kenbright Actuarial and Financial Services, provided a regional perspective, highlighting emerging opportunities that Uganda can tap into as health financing continues to evolve across East Africa.
Dr. Charles Olaro, Director General of Health Services at the @MinofHealthUG , called for faster sector-wide transformation. “We must accelerate digitalization, strengthen our systems and help Ugandans see health insurance not just as a policy, but as a long-term investment in their wellbeing.”
Ms. Grace Kiwanuka, Executive Director, Uganda Healthcare Federation(@UgHealthcreFed) reflected on the steady growth. “This has been a long journey, and today we can confidently say there has been significant progress in expanding access to health insurance”
Representing the CEO of the Insurance Regulatory Authority(@IraUganda ), Alhaj Dr. Kaddunabbi Ibrahim Lubega, Director Legal & Secretary to the Authority - Mrs. Francesca Kakooza highlighted global digital health trends. “Countries like South Korea and Rwanda show us what is possible when technology is fully integrated into healthcare systems, especially in reducing fraud and improving efficiency.”
Throughout the event, discussions centered on digital transformation in Medical Insurance, fraud reduction, improved access, better claims management, patient safety and the need for a more inclusive ecosystem.
In closing, Mr. Kisakye reaffirmed UIA’s commitment to continued collaboration with government agencies and industry players to build a more efficient, transparent and inclusive medical insurance landscape.
A heartfelt thank you to all attendees, contributors and partners who made this inaugural dialogue a success. The day ended on a high with a networking cocktail sponsored by Smart Applications International.

@GabrielBuule In his message, is a call for derisking the health sector through communal prepaid healthcare financing, which is the National Health Insurance scheme as a solution, but it ought to be done right from the start. @The_UIA will host a medical insurance symposium soon, make time.
.@Emmanuel_Rotary, Board Chairperson of the Presidential CEO Forum, presented key resolutions to the Prime Minister, highlighting the private sector’s commitment to national development and tourism growth.
Some of the key resolutions focused on enhancing tourism infrastructure:
✔️ Urgently repair critical roads and maintain “last-mile” access to tourist sites
✔️ Construct safe and clean stopovers along major highways
✔️ Expand air connectivity by upgrading domestic aerodromes and empowering private airlines while strengthening Uganda Airlines as a regional and international carrier.
