Housing affordability continues to plague Seattle and cities across the U.S.
@ChallengeSeaWA in @seattletimes explores what it takes to tackle this growing issue. Every option needs to be on the table to create more homes for people to live.
An absolute barnburner of a report on America's housing shortage dropped today, estimating that the U.S. was almost 4 million homes short of household needs on the eve of the pandemic.
Very proud that @zillow was a sponsor for this research effort: https://t.co/iAhjsdMkuX.

Marin County homeowner who bought her home 40 years ago for $100k doesn’t think California has a housing shortage-and that her personal preferences should govern housing policy for the entire state. With all due respect, no. https://t.co/5Hr1dJrUai
In this Zillow survey, 71% of Seattle-area residents said more apartments would have a positive impact on housing affordability, but only 53% would support an apartment building in their neighborhood. Among homeowners: 45%.

Rest in peace, Dr. Sara McLanahan. Your contributions were deep and wide. Today I’m going to listen to your voice on the podcast from 2018 with @msalgani, done by @NPRinvisibilia. An example of how you fostered so much research out of your own work. https://t.co/vSfw6hlLpR
If you are interested in financial markets there are new data available every nanosecond.
If you are interested in the macroeconomy there are major new data available every week.
If you are interested in people the best data (Census Income & Poverty) is only once a year.
Someone remind me again why/how administrative tax data is some sort of gold standard for measuring income???
FYI at $600 Billion in unpaid taxes, we’re talking about sums that could almost cover cost of Medicare or Medicaid…
One of the most common Qs I get from ppl considering academia -> industry is what my days look like/what do I actually do?
To provide some insight I thought I’d recount a few days across the next few weeks.
Usual caveats: n of 1, n of not many days.

@HistDem Both data privacy methodology (whether DP or not) and missing data methods are extremely difficult problems with NO fully feasible solution. The Census Bureau should state that point publicly, and give detailed explanations of why they chose certain methods.
As excruciatingly hot as it’s been the past two days, tomorrow will be even worse.
Seattle is likely to top 110 degrees (perhaps hitting 112) as hot dry winds from the east take us to hell and beyond.
