Seeing how ridiculous some of these speeds are on the specific roads I’m going to change this to just highlight High Storrs Road and Ringinglow 20mph areas.
It's tourism, it's health, it's leisure, it's transport independence to get to school. This is what good looks like, and it's what everyone deserves. 👇
"Active travel and environments that are about putting pedestrians and cyclists first should be at the paramount of all urban design thinking"
Wayne Hemingway joined delegates at #ActiveCity2024 to discuss the importance of developments that put active travel first 🌳🏠👩🦽🚶🚲
🚫 Emissions from 30mph cars are 30% higher than those at 20mph.
🚫 The chance of being killed by a driver going 30mph is 45%. At 20mph, it's just 5%,
🚫 Local people and their Cllrs should decide on new 20mph zones and LTNs.
Big thanks to @LBC for having me on the show.

@fietsprofessor Cycling in the Netherlands generates €35B in other annual benefits—that aren’t health outcomes—far outweighing the €595M investment. That's a return nearly 59 times the cost @fietsprofessor.
"Having that access to safe cycle routes is a basic element, is a basic tenet of social justice"
👇 @LouHaigh is on point in this interview
🤞 Exciting times again for active travel

Here are a handful of recent incidents, caught on camera, resulting in driving bans and £thousands in fines in the courts.
It’s thanks to footage of dangerous and careless drivers submitted by people in the West Midlands who have had enough and want to help make the roads safer.
This is quite astonishing.
In just one patrol in Birmingham, roughly a quarter of drivers committed an offence in front of a brightly marked Police unit.
If you ever wondered why we constantly talk about the dangers of speed and mobile phones, this is why. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy.
@Im_a_train @slowbikeiain Yet the people who are worried about the “Orwellian surveillance” of traffic measures then freely install Google Maps, Facebook, WhatsApp, X, Instagram etc… which all gather far more information about them to sell for profit. 🤡
Just look at the appalling dangerous driving children in Birmingham encounter on their way to & from school every day.
Shockingly this is happening at a zebra crossing in Tysley where a 3 year old girl was killed in 2021.

20mph stats from Wales are amazing:
📉 32% drop in casualties
📉 20% fall in car insurance claims
💷 NHS + police + insurance + property damage savings due to less accidents means payback for implementation (£34m) is about 6 months 🤯
