This is an incredibly cool finding! Ants perform amputations to prevent the systemic spread of infections, a behavior so far only known in humans. Grateful to Erik for bringing me on board this project to run microbiological analyses and an infection experiment. Ants rock! 🐜
We are out in the Alps for the annual excursion with our students @uni_mainz_eng looking at plant-insect interactions and plant diversity! So much enthusiasm and fun!
Applications open for PhD positions @uni_mainz 🇩🇪 through the GenEvo RTG, including a project with me on gene regulation and bee dormancy🧬🐝💤. Open to international students - deadline July 15th: https://t.co/lx8lJGK4Df
🆕interview: "Tiny queens, supergenes, and much more", in this interview, @GiuliasScarparo talks about her research, where she and colleagues discovered a novel supergene variant on chromosome 9 in the ant 𝐹𝑜𝑟𝑚𝑖𝑐𝑎 𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑒𝑟𝑒𝑎. #supergenes#ants @bcportinha @limariaph
Excited to share our review on the macroevolution of plant-hummingbird pollination! This charismatic interaction, considered a classic example of coevolution, involves 7,000 plant species across ~100 families and 366 hummingbird species in the Americas https://t.co/ffSijRGEIc
The complex social behavior of ants has fascinated humans for centuries, but only now is it becoming possible to study ant behavior at the neural circuit level. New review with @Dom_Frank3 in @AnnualReviews: The Budding Neuroscience of Ant Social Behavior
