50 years ago today, April 3, 1971, Eta Nu Chapter was chartered at ECU becoming the 1st NPHC org on campus & 1st ΑΦΑ Chapter at a PWI in the state of NC. The 1st initiates were known as “Undisputed Truth.” Today, we present the Spring 2021 initiates—“Golden ResurgeHNce of Truth.”

Laura Marie Leary Elliott, of Vanceboro, NC, was the first full-time African American student to attend #ECU. Hand-selected by Dr. Leo Jenkins and local pediatrician Dr. Andrew Best (#ΑΦΑ), she enrolled at ECU in the fall of 1962. #BlackHistoryMonth

Dr. Andrew A. Best, an African-American physician, pioneered desegregation of Pitt Memorial Hospital (later Vidant) and #ECU, also served on ECU Board of Trustees and UNC System Board of Governors.
