As someone who works in Higher Ed and is extremely critical of its current state, the average four year degree is much closer to 100k rather than 300k. Even for out of state- the average is less than 200k.
That's a 66% and 33% difference from your number. Seems important to me.
Hot take: Universities charge $300,000 for a degree that teaches you skills any LLM can do for free. At some point we need to have an honest conversation about whether higher education is the greatest individuals misallocation of capital in recent history.
