Folate is essential. The science on that is not in doubt.

But there's a clinically significant difference between:

→ Synthetic folic acid (requires multiple conversion steps, impaired by MTHFR)
→ Natural food folate (leafy greens, liver, legumes — bioavailable as-is)
→ Methylfolate / 5-MTHF (the active form, bypasses MTHFR)

The policy adds the least bioavailable, most problematic form. For the people who need folate most — pregnant women with MTHFR variants — this may not even work effectively.
