Unfortunately I don’t think this is good news. Next you’ll hear competitions not approved by the ministry can’t represent Nigeria internationally with certain competitions finding it difficult to get approval or their activities slowed.

The Ministry of Education has now contacted the National Mathematical Centre to request that it submit all national Olympiad competitions it organizes.

They want to start sponsoring all of them to the international finals now.

They have started contacting schools already.

This was abandoned in 2019.

I hope they don’t politicize it.

Testicular torsion got me my first query ever.

During NYSC camp in Oyo, a corps member came into the clinic with sudden, severe scrotal pain. The doctor on duty suspected testicular torsion and immediately asked the woman in charge of the clinic to arrange for him to be transferred to a hospital in town.

She insisted they should just give him paracetamol.

We tried explaining that testicular torsion is a surgical emergency and that every minute counts. She wouldn't budge.

The doctors in camp were furious, so we went straight to the camp commandant. After hearing the situation, he approved moving the corps member to another facility.

That didn't go down well with the woman.

She was determined to teach us a lesson.

- She issued queries to all of us.
- She barred us from the camp clinic, saying only those officially on duty were allowed there.

We responded to the queries and, in protest, refused to return to the camp clinic for 2 days (I think).

Eventually, we were invited to a meeting where our concerns were heard and addressed.

Looking back, I'd collect that query all over again. Some situations are too time sensitive to let bureaucracy get in the way.

The most annoying thing about videos like this is that the people most likely to see them are 16-year-old girls at Baze University who will come away ashamed of being Northerners.

They will watch it, internalise the insults, begin distancing themselves from their culture and their people, and start self-hating just to be accepted by lunatics like this.

She offered no explanation for the problem, no attempt to identify its causes, and no solution. She simply insulted, ranted, and felt good about herself.

And the result is that young boys and girls will grow up believing their people are the bottom of the world, then reproduce the same self-hatred in others.
