Crazy Thieves Win Again ๐, Vegas LAN Is Next ๐ฅ | @100Thieves Weekly
If last week was the super week, this week was the opposite. 5/6 of 100 Thievesโ esports teams were taking a break. The only tournament we participated in was a warm-up for the ALGS Split 2 playoffs LAN in Las Vegas. That being said, let's see how the Crazy Thieves performed.
The tournament in question was the EEC Gamesir Invitational. It's basically a dress rehearsal for all the teams participating in the Las Vegas LAN. So while the stakes are much lower, it was a good chance to see if winning the regional final was a one-off or if we have consistency on our side. The group stage started with dominance. 51 kills in 6 games. Safe to say the aggressive style of gameplay that was introduced with Koyful continued on. The placements were amazing too. A first place, two second places, and a third place to complement the 51 kills. While the second two group matchups weren't as impressive, they maintained a decent point average. And the first day's performance secured them first place by one point. The Crazy Thieves came out on top of the group stage, definitely a good sign to come. Their next step was the Upper Bracket Finals. The Thieves started slow; last place with 0 points in the first game. But they picked up the pace in game two with third place and seven kills. Unfortunately, that was all that was in the tank for that day. Five more kills and some mid-table finishes weren't enough to secure the grand finals. They finished 14th and headed to the lower bracket finals. And I'm not sure if their new playstyle just really works against weaker teams and maybe less against some of the more consistent teams, but once again they stomped the lower bracket finals. Two first-place finishes, two second-place finishes, and 34 kills had them well above the rest of the competition, and they qualified for the grand finals. Safe to say, pretty up and down. But at the end of the day, no one asks you how you got to the finals. They ask you if you won it. Unfortunately, the finals did not start well for the Thieves. They did not have any standout performances through game 5. Either getting eliminated within the bottom 10 or getting to the top 3 with only 1 kill, but thankfully something shifted in Game 6. Even though they got 9th place, they also got 12 kills. And that was crucial in trying to secure match point. Team Liquid was the first to secure match point, and it was in game 5. From here on out, it was a race to secure match point as well as keep away from Team Liquid and the other two teams that secured match point in the next game. The Crazy Thieves were able to continue on the momentum they gained in game 6, in game 7 getting third place and 15 kills, so by game 8, six teams were match-point eligible, including Crazy Thieves and chasing the all-important win. The Falcons and Team Liquid bit the dust fast, eliminated in the bottom ten. NOEZ FOXX got caught up in the blender, so it was down to Nice Guys, Geekay Esports, and the Crazy Thieves to see if anyone could finish it out. The Thieves only needed first place, but thankfully they did not change their playstyle, and their relentless aggression continued, racking up the kills until only they were left of the match-point-eligible teams. Aurora, who werenโt on match point, pushed them to the final circle but finished second. This left the Thieves as the EEC Gamesir Invitational champions. I know this isn't the biggest tournament in the world, but regardless, the Thieves' performance was very encouraging. They seem to have their play style figured out. They seem to have their roles secure. And they proved against the best teams in the world that they can secure over 50 kills in a six-game stretch. And if it's needed, they can convert on match point finals. The Las Vegas LAN is coming up. Will the Thieves be able to make it three event wins in a row?
And that's it for this week's edition of 100 Thieves Weekly. I know it was a super slow week, but keep your eyes open this week for crucial season-changing moments in multiple esports.
