Councillor Matt Wynne and Councillor Leah Taylor will be taking a short break to recharge the batteries, whilst Councillor Asa Caton will be available for any emergencies that arise (please pray that we don't have missed bin collections like last year 🙏)
🎄MERRY CHRISTMAS & A HAPPY NEW YEARHAPPY NEW YEAR🎄
As we approach the end of the year, we would like to wish the residents and businesses of Edgeley a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
We would also like to thank everyone that has supported and assisted the ECA over the last twelve months. We are very much a community organisation that relies on the support of volunteers. We hope the festive period is filled with happiness and love.
Stockport Homes advised that there are still some issues and they will liaise with all affected tenants directly. Please follow the advice in the letter that has been distributed.
📣YORK STREET ESTATE - HEATING ISSUES📣
Residents of the York Street Estate should have received communication from Stockport Homes advising that all heating and hot water tariffs have been suspended until the new heating system issues have been resolved.
This came after Councillor Asa Caton demanded that more action was taken to protect the elderly and vulnerable. The ECA has been contacted by a number of residents concerned about the amount of credit the system was consuming and confused about the new controls.
Councillors have discussed this area previously with Highways with proposed solutions being discounted for a number of reasons. This formal report will help Councillors understand the options available to tackle the problems on this dangerous stretch of road in Edgeley.
📣OLD CHAPEL STREET📣
The ECA has commissioned a new report to be conducted by SMBC Highways to investigate all available options to tackle speeding and dangerous driving on Old Chapel Street between the junctions of Grenville Street and York Street.
🚧NOTICE OF WORKS🚧
Stockport Council is carrying out highway drainage repair work on Dale Street, Edgeley in the dip between the reservoirs. This work will be carried out by George Cox & Sons Ltd.
The scheduled start date is the Monday 11th November 2024 and is expected to take up to five days to complete. The working hours will be between 9.30am -15.30pm.
The ECA does not advocate for indiscriminate development of green spaces, there has to be a sensible and pragmatic approach if we are going to get close to developing the affordable and social housing and the critical infrastructure required for current and future generations.”

The ECAs Planning Lead, Cllr Asa Caton says: “It was pleasing to hear the Labour Government raise the same issue as the ECA when they commented that “Brownfield Only” is not the same as “Brownfield First”.
