They started asking “what does the environment need to teach today?”

Nick Saban: "Everybody's smart that goes to medical school. But everybody doesn't make it through. Some that make it through don't make good doctors. It's the same kind of thing with athletes. Some of 'em have great talent but they don't have the right psychological disposition."
If you truly want to know what someone values observe them. When we ask someone what they value they often speak to who they hope they are or who they would like to be. Actions often tell us much more.

“Specific knowledge cannot be taught but it can be learned” - Ravikant
The most important lessons are rarely explicitly taught but if you study your world and those in it, it can most certainly be learned. Dont wait for someone to explicitly teach the lesson you want to learn
Great coaches know that frustration isn’t a signal to stop, it’s a sign that growth is around the corner. When an athlete quits in frustration, they train their brain to give up when things get hard. But if they push through, even just a little, their brain rewires for persistence and progress.
Coaches don’t just teach skills, they help athletes learn to struggle better. Instead of viewing frustration as failure, they learn to see it as proof that they’re improving. That shift in mindset doesnt just make them better players; it makes them stronger, more resilient competitors.

Mark made every room he was in or field he was on feel different. His warmth, energy and passion will be missed. He developed people and spoke truth. I was always laughing and inspired around Mark. My thoughts are with his family.
Mark Allen impacted countless student-athletes and people through his baseball journey. The Illinois famILLy was lucky to have him on our staff.
