.@Duke_William66’s claim to rule is based on the memory of Edward, which I intend to celebrate, thereby ensuring my own survival #battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

Some criticise me, but there’s nothing to be gained by opposing @Duke_William66. I must think of the people of Winchester #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

Representatives from @Duke_William66 have arrived. They require a sign of fealty and further rent. I have agreed #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

I will not recognise Edgar as England’s new king; Hastings taught me that the ‘true’ king is whoever commands the largest army #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

I now know what happened to @King_Harold66. His body was buried on an anonymous cliff; overlooking the coast he once defended #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

@visitingmartian I am not sure. I have not been in contact with my family. I just hope someone gave @King_Harold66 a Christian burial

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

I am in Winchester. Others wish to continue the fight, but I haven't the appetite. I'm sure @Duke_William66 will come to me #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

I… must leave this place. #BattleofHastings #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

HAROLD! #BattleofHastings #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

This will become a slaughter… The lightly-wounded men try to leave but they are hampered by the fallen #BattleofHastings #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

The change of direction of the archers has caught my countrymen off guard! #BattleofHastings #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

Oh no – the right flank of @King_Harold66’s army are being slaughtered! #BattleofHastings #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

That man riding into the thick of the battle is Bishop Odo, @Duke_William66’s half-brother #BattleofHastings #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

Where is @Duke_William66? Has he fallen? #BattleofHastings #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

The housecarl battle-axes easily penetrate Norman armour. @King_Harold66 is holding the line well! #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

Many Saxons fell under that onslaught, but the Normans have little to celebrate. The higher ground is proving unassailable! #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

How awful! The housecarls are killing the Normans – and their mounts – with single blows from their fearsome battleaxes! #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

The Norman infantry retreat; those that faced @King_Harold66 and the housecarls have suffered terribly #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

Do you hear that war cry? “Holy Cross” the Saxons shout; a reminder of our Lord inspires courage! #Battle1066

[Edith of Wessex @Edith_1066]

Good luck brother, @King_Harold66. #Battle1066
