A Christian woman is describing that her town, Yaroun, was being destroyed every day during the fake ceasefire, including the church. She described how every house in Yaroun had religious symbols and represented a refuge for saints. That no one in lebanese media cared to tell their story other than the late Amal Khalil who was murdered by theIDF. And that the ceasefires were worse for them than war time because Hezbollah has ceased its attacks but Israel then brought the bulldozers unabated. The Lebanese government did nothing to stop it.
My motion calling on Canada to examine its risk of complicity in grave violations of international law in Gaza was defeated 40-12.
Here is the exchange that preceded the vote:
One of the most detailed testimonies I've heard of the Israeli torture and systematic sexual abuse of Gaza Sumud Flotilla activists abducted in international waters while attempting to bring aid to Gaza
Today, the @EUCouncil imposed asset freezes and travel bans on Regavim, Amana and Nachala, measures that prohibit, inter alia, the making available of funds or economic resources, directly or indirectly, to those designated.
These organizations form the institutional backbone of Israel’s entrenchment of its unlawful presence in the occupied Palestinian territory: colonization, annexation, dispossession of Palestinian property, obstruction of humanitarian and development assistance, and the coercive environment driving forcible transfer of protected persons. The Council itself links these entities to violent outposts, demolition campaigns, displacement, and systematic interference with Palestinian civilian life.
The organizations designated today are deeply interwoven with Israeli State structures, ministries, and settlements local government. Their activities are enabled, financed, protected and, in many instances, operationally coordinated with organs of the State.
That raises an unavoidable legal question. Under the law of State responsibility, where conduct attributable to, directed by, or acknowledged and adopted by State authorities gives rise to gross and systemic breaches of international law, responsibility does not end with quasi-private implementing actors. It extends to the State organs, ministries, officials and public authorities implicated in the commission, facilitation or maintenance of those wrongful acts.
If the EU Council now accepts that these organisations materially contribute to forcible transfer, settlement expansion, settler violence and unlawful appropriation of property, the logical consequence is difficult to avoid: scrutiny must move further upstream, toward the governmental and ministerial structures that sustain, coordinate and politically authorize the system itself.
@avilewis Can you add an amendment to C-22 that makes the same information for all politicians available to the public?
I have reasonable grounds for suspicion.
@nonhalalca@WendysCanada Canada is a free country where businesses are allowed to serve food that comply with food safety regulations.
If you don't like freedom, leave.
@Bouchtard@TheJasonPugh@WabKinew@ABDanielleSmith Two pipelines were completed to the BC coast about a year ago.
Those major projects didn't shut down separatism.
Alberta separatism is a psyop intended to weaken Canada and will make Albertan lives worse if it succeeds.
