As 2025 winds down and we look toward 2026, I can’t help but reflect on one of my biggest highlights of the year consistently for the past five years, The Bitcoin Pizza Day Celebration.

It started in 2021 with @iwuno_obinna bringing me onboard to join him plan a conference in Asaba, Delta State and quickly evolved into something much bigger. A conference for one city quickly turned into a hangout across multiple cities, and that was the beginning of a celebration that would grow beyond anything we imagined.

Fast forward to today, and Bitcoin Pizza Day has been held in over 50 cities across 23 countries, with more than 60,000 people participating over the years. Each year, the challenge is the same: how do we make it bigger, more engaging, and more meaningful than the last? From fun games and interactive activities to exciting prizes, every edition pushes us to raise the bar.

Of course, it’s not just about pizza and prizes. At the core of every event is Bitcoin education and adoption. We talk about why Bitcoin matters, its potential to change financial systems, and we celebrate the very first Bitcoin transaction by Laszlo Hanyecz, who bought two pizzas for 10,000 BTC in May 2010. That singular action turned Bitcoin from abstract code into a currency people could actually use and laid the foundation of most of the adoption we see today.

Organizing this event has taught me a lot about what it takes to build and scale a community-driven celebration: attention to detail, anticipating challenges, creating meaningful engagement, and always thinking about impact. The @_CryptoBootcamp team alongside our major partners from Day 1, @BitFiOfficial , a bitcoin only focused community driving bitcoin adoption globally, have set a standard for celebrating Bitcoin across Africa, and the enthusiasm from every participant continues to drive adoption and spark conversations in new cities and countries.

Being the first to organize such a large-scale Bitcoin Pizza Day celebration in Africa, it’s incredible to see how far the idea has spread. Watching other individuals and organizations draw inspiration from what we started, hosting their own smaller conferences and meetups reminds us that the spark we ignited has grown into a community-wide movement. It’s a proud feeling to know that what began as a single idea has inspired others to celebrate, educate, and build around Bitcoin across the continent.

Plans for Bitcoin Pizza Day 2026 are already underway, and we’re determined to make it bigger, more immersive, and even more impactful than this year. If this journey has shown us anything, it’s that celebration, education, and community can go hand in hand
