This is a guy explaining why it's okay for a father to use AI to read bedtime stories to his children rather than reading the stories himself. This technology is "the future," he says. We don't want to be "left in the dust."
This is my whole problem with the AI maximalists. They place zero inherent value on the human experience itself. Even a task like reading to your children is, to these freaks, nothing more than a process of passing information from one party to another. We should use AI because it can do it more efficiently. Even in the realm of bedtime stories, we are somehow locked in a technology race, and if we don't figure out how to be more efficient bed time story readers we will get "left behind" in some vague way.
They see no problem with AI "art" for this same reason. Nothing has any meaning. There is no value in the process itself. The human soul does not exist. Just do everything faster and cheaper and produce as much stuff as you can as quickly as you can. That's how they see the world. And I can't quite put into words how much I despise it.
The AI maximalists say that we need AI to do all the jobs so that we can be freed to do more meaningful things like make art and read to our children. But then they also want AI to make art and read to our children. So what exactly will be left for humans to do? The answer, though they won’t admit it, is that we get to be passive consumers sitting around slack jawed staring at screens until we die. That’s the only form of happiness these people can conceive of. It’s all any of us should want, as far as they’re concerned.
