Juneteenth is a powerful reminder that freedom was delayed, but never denied by the strength of Black Americans who kept pushing forward.
Today, I reflect on the history and meaning of this day and reaffirm my commitment to listening, learning, and working every day to create safer neighborhoods, stronger schools, and greater opportunities for every family in Senate District 12.
At the Georgia Capitol today, Senate District 12 Democratic nominee Edward Brown joined the Georgia Senate Caucus and a strong coalition of community leaders and state officials to stand up for justice, fairness, and real representation for Georgia families. We showed up, we spoke out, and we made it clear: leadership should work for everyone, not just a few. The fight for fair districts, accountable government, and stronger communities continues.

Today, I was honored to attend Phoebe's Network of Trust Ties That Bind event, a meaningful program that brings community leaders and young men together to teach a practical life skill—how to tie a necktie—while encouraging confidence, professionalism, and personal growth.
Thank you to Phoebe and all the mentors, volunteers, and community partners who invested their time in helping shape the next generation of leaders in Southwest Georgia.
Building a Better Georgia starts with investing in our youth.
June is Gun Violence Awareness Month, a time to recognize that every action we take today can help build a safer, stronger tomorrow for communities across Southwest Georgia.
Safe communities begin with prevention, education, and support. We must stand with survivors by offering compassion, resources, and opportunities for healing that can make a lasting difference. By working together, we can create meaningful change and reduce the impact of gun violence. Every action counts.
Let us continue building a stronger Georgia where every person feels safe, supported, and empowered with hope for the future.
Today, I stopped by to celebrate a matriarch in our community. Ms. Louise Terry, we honor you as you celebrate your 84th birthday. Happy Birthday from the Southwest Georgia Family.

We had a great turnout today at the Swim for Life registration kickoff at ASU West, with more than 500 people in attendance! Swim for Life provides survival-oriented swimming lessons that equip children with essential water safety skills. This is a tremendous initiative that will make a real difference in our community. Be sure to help spread the word and encourage families to take advantage of this valuable program.
Today, I had the pleasure of attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Legacy Wellness Center in Albany's Harlem District. The Center will provide a comprehensive range of services to our region's underserved population, including medical, dental, behavioral health, and counseling services, as well as a genomics research lab. This investment in community health will help expand access to quality care, advance innovative research, and improve health outcomes throughout Southwest Georgia. It truly was a great day for healthcare in our region.
Rev. Dr. Harriett S. Gainer gave a wonderful speech and prayer (even sang a bit!) during the 75th Annual National Day of Prayer.
Special thanks to Stan Franklin of Cornerstone Coffee for providing the music and sound for the event!

Happy Eid al-Adha Mubarak! As Muslim families and communities across Georgia gather to celebrate Eid al-Adha, I want to wish everyone marking this special occasion a joyful and peaceful holiday. Eid Mubarak!
A Story of Faith and Trust: When Prophet Abraham (AS) was ready to sacrifice what he loved most, God showed the world the beauty of complete trust. He replaced his son with a lamb, reminding us that true devotion is always met with mercy.
Faith. Family. Community. Service. Building a Better Georgia.
On Memorial Day Weekend, we pause to remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We are grateful. We are proud. We will never forget. To the fallen, thank you. To their families, we are forever in your debt. I would like to wish everyone in Georgia's 12th Senate District a happy and safe Memorial Day.
This May, we recognize and support the causes that impact so many lives across our great state.
1. Skin Cancer Awareness Month: Protect your skin. Get screened. Stay safe in the sun.
2. Stroke Awareness Month: Learn the signs. Act F.A.S.T. Save lives.
3. Lupus Awareness Month: Support. Educate. Advocate.
4. Mental Health Awareness Month: Let's break the stigma and build a healthier Georgia—together.
A Healthier Mind. A Healthier Body. A Stronger Georgia.
