In yet another Orwellian move, the Government announced in a green paper this week that it wants to decide what news people can and cannot see, with plans to push approved outlets to the top of social media feeds.

Ministers should not be deciding which news sources the public read — especially in an era when three-quarters of under-25s say they get their news from social media.

As written in The Times, “In a state-sponsored ­regime in which inconvenient news was pushed out of view, would the grooming gangs scandal or the excesses of transgender ideology ever have come to light? You shouldn’t choose to trust ­everything you read online; but you shouldn’t trust the state to make the choice for you, either”.

This is dystopian.

For years, many Americans have been told that patriotism is something to apologize for.

Yet the World Cup has shown something very different.

Visitors aren’t arriving to lecture Americans about their values. They’re arriving excited to experience them. They want to see the landmarks, meet the people, enjoy the food, and be part of the atmosphere.

What many visitors have discovered is that America is far different from the negative picture often painted by critics.

They see hardworking families, thriving businesses, welcoming communities, and people who genuinely love their country.

They see a nation that remains one of the most diverse, innovative, and opportunity-filled places on Earth.

The scenes have been remarkable.

Fans from different countries celebrating together.

Families creating lifelong memories.

Local businesses benefiting from the economic activity.

Communities proudly showing off what makes their hometown special.

It’s a reminder that sports have a unique ability to bring people together while also showcasing the character of a nation.

America isn’t perfect. No country is.

But the World Cup has highlighted something important: millions of people around the world still dream of visiting the United States.

They still admire American culture.

They still appreciate American generosity.

They still recognize the freedoms and opportunities that have made this nation a destination for generations.

Perhaps that’s why so many visitors leave with a different perspective than the one they arrived with.

They discover that America is more than headlines and political arguments.

It’s the people.

It’s the communities.

It’s the traditions.

It’s the optimism.

It’s the belief that tomorrow can be better than today.

As the tournament continues, one thing has become increasingly clear.

The United States doesn’t need to convince the world that it’s a special place.

Free public restrooms. Europeans pay every time.
Free water at every restaurant. Just appears.
Free refills. Coffee. Sodas. Iced tea. Unlimited.
Free chips and salsa before you even order.
Free warm bread with dinner.
Ice in drinks like civilized people.
Air conditioning everywhere. Not a moral debate. A fact.
Parking lots attached to the actual place you are going.
Drive throughs where the food comes to the car while you sit in it.
Ranch dressing by the gallon.
Tex-Mex that cannot be explained only experienced.
Dental care that actually works.
Buccee’s. There are no words for Buccee’s.

Then they found the grocery stores.

Five of them within one mile.
Each one the size of an aircraft hangar.
Burgers. Steaks. Brisket. Ribs. Pulled pork. Lamb. Veal. Every cut of every animal ever domesticated by human civilization available in one refrigerated aisle at ten in the morning on a Tuesday.

The Germans stood in the meat section for forty five minutes.
In silence.
Processing.

They finally understand why we do not have trains.

We have roads wide enough for the cars we actually drive.
Parking lots the size of small European countries.
Airports in every city worth visiting.

Why would we need trains.

The Germans are taking ranch home by the bottle.
The Dutch found queso and briefly lost the ability to speak.
The Japanese are photographing HEB like it is the Louvre.
The Czechs are weeping in West, Texas.

Welcome to America!

- One girl was raped by a dog while men bet on whether it would vaginally or anally rape her.
- Girls were forced to have abortions with knitting needles.
- Glass bottles, keys, baseball bats, and other objects were forced inside them, some shattering.
- Girls were gang-raped by dozens of men at a time in “party houses.”
- Girls were whipped, hung upside down, suffocated, and urinated on.
- Girls as young as 5 or 6 were tied up and abused.
- Girls were locked in dog cages.
- Girls were branded with an “M” for Muhammad.
- Girls were threatened with being killed and fed to pigs.

All of this was carried out by predominantly South Asian, Pakistani men, with smaller numbers from Somali, Iranian, Syrian, Turkish, Bangladeshi, and Iraqi men.

And yet perpetrators were let off, authorities turned a blind eye, and it continues to this day because people are scared of being called racist.

Anyone who covered for this needs to face the death penalty alongside all of those who hurt these girls.
