@markb139 Thanks on that one. Funny thing is that when I took out a VIC chip from an others board, I discovered that the 5v pin was bended up. Haha. Probably one of the problems why someone gave that board away as broken haha. I Will now check the pins all the time! Hahah. 😀
Working on my first #c64 mainboard again. After recapping everything worked fine, but after desoldering the chips and replace them with sockets it gave no video output anymore. Testen the PLA, CIA's, VIC and swapped some other chips with no luck. Quess I need an #oscilloscope...
@adamT117 @EC64Forum Thanks for your comment! The other board I'm working on is a 425 so that was probably the confusion. That one also gives a blackscreen now, but that it gives a video output when turning on. So probably some lockup from one defective chip. The search continues! Mwhuhahahhh
First batch of disc capacitors has arrived and soldered them on the board. Also the new voltage regulators and fuse are installed now. Missing the heatsink of the 7805 volt regulator though, but first I'd like to test if all voltages are right. #repair#commodore64#assy250425
A new power switch has Just arrived in the mailbox. Thanks #retro8bitshop for the gratis and fast delivery. Now I can remove the cut wires and solder the new switch. Let's do this!!! #c64#retro#soldering#commodore
Don't know why this board is used for spareparts, but we'll find out soon. Plan is to replace all broken and missing caps. Solder new voltage regulators and a new switch. Hopefully we can get the board all powered again before we start adding the chips.
I've been busy with my soldering skills for quite a while now. The only thing I do is repairing old computers with commodore64's in first place.
I haven't captured anything on video yet. That's something to work on in the future. But have been taken pictures from time to time...
Too bad I haven't got the starting picture of my latest project, but I can tell that this c64 board has been used for spareparts.
The circuits seems all good though, but lots of parts are missing and a lot of ceramic disk caps have been broken. Here's what it looks right now...
We're finally back working on the #C64 Vulcano Towers RPG!
Development update explaining some stuff, posted on the tube tubes:
