@OldAPG@prmade313raised Additionally, the county itself is just slightly over 10% African American, which means that a representative jury would have included one black person.
@OldAPG@prmade313raised There were Asian and Latino jurors.
Also, if black people wanted to be on the jury, perhaps prospective black jurors shouldn't have admitted outright that they would have trouble convicting a young black man.
Karen O wrote "Maps" inspired by her boyfriend of the time, Angus Andrew (Liars singer), with whom she lived a troubled and long-distance relationship - the two bands were always on tour.
The striking line "They don't love you like I love you" came from an email she sent him.
The video, directed by Patrick Daughters, is legendary: Karen O cries real tears at the end of the performance. Angus was late for hours on set and she was about to go on tour; when he showed up, the excitement really overflowed.
Released as the third single from Fever to Tell, it became the biggest Yeah Yeah Yeahs hit to date (#9 on Billboard's Alternative Songs). It is considered one of the best songs of the 2000s by Pitchfork (#6) and Rolling Stone (#7), and voted the best "alternative love song" of all time by NME on a dedicated list.
BREAKING: MANSLAUGHTER is now on the table with Karmelo Anthony. The lawyers and judge in this case have agreed to include it in the charging document that jurors will consider today after closing arguments.
Manslaughter is a lesser charge than what he's charged with, MURDER. Manslaughter is when a person acts recklessly and takes an unjustifiable risk but did not INTEND to kill.
A murder charge carries 5-99 years in prison.
Manslaughter carries 2-20 years in prison.

He's right.
It's almost like West Virginians, and Appalachian people in general, have a real sense for the consequences of being raped by outside exploiters . . .
Brad Paisley urges his followers to sign a petition to stop the construction of a 69,000-square-foot data center that would be 50 yards from the Nashville Zoo, which he called “an absolute nightmare scenario” in an Instagram Reel. https://t.co/EmxKUw5oav
1. Correct. These boys come from rich families.
2. These girls want comfort. They want to go from their parents' $900K McMansion to their $3M sorority house to their own (new husband's) $650K starter home in Alpharetta.
Not at all hating the game, by the way. It is what it is.
We need a reality dating show called "Average SEC Couples" that's just 15 Average Joe's from the South wooing 15 gorgeous women with generational wealth.
@Kurt_Steiner Peak cringe is that they write about something they have no understanding of, have never experienced, and really don't want to understand or experience.
And there's always this tinge of regional supremacy - "look at these dumb rubes."
College athletics in the dumps because they wouldn’t let kids monetize their YouTube channel or sign their jerseys for money. Kids weren’t even asking for much and now the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction with no guardrails.
I spent a chunk of my early years around Mormons and they were in general exemplary people. Solid families, friendly and open. If I had one complaint it would be aggressive proselytizing - which even happened on the school bus. But that is also a healthy sign of confidence in their way of life.
Exact discussions of their theology strike me as beside the point when they frequently live more ‘Christian lives’ than men serving as Jesuit priests or leaders of prosperity gospel megachurches - which are basically a Sunday infomercial.
@JBen_80@officia1_dell Vedder based it on an actual incident in TX.
We watch the video in my Rock History class as an example of the "Politics of Damage" that grunge bands tapped into in the 90s . . .
I was blown away when I read The Radicalism of the American Revolution shortly after it came out 35 years ago.
I have read the last chapter again and again over the years, particularly the last few pages, which are as good as historical writing gets.
RIP Gordon Wood.
