I wonder how people can tweet about life minutia today. We should be screaming about racism, deaths of innocent children and total brainwashing of our citizens. Education is our only hope. Making people who can think on their own. #islephysics
In the time of political turmoil that we are facing now, what do focus on while teaching physics? Education is the only solution to climate change disaster. Forget cool videos and other stuff, focus on making students independent thinkers #isle physics
Why did my tweet about women get 81 likes and my tweet about the philosophy of the course got 11? I think this is a sign that the questions of an overarching philosophy of a course seem to be less important. In my opinion the course philosophy is the start. #islephysics
#aaptsm19 what else makes woman’s life in physics difficult? Group work. Sometimes. Watch your females in groups with males. Do they have a voice? Are they touching equipment? If not, put them in all female groups. And talk to them.
What teaching philosophy would make a female student feel welcome? She needs to feel free to think, and not be afraid to make mistakes. That is why I argue that “predict-observe-explain is not friendly to women. Is there a better approach? Yes!!
@Exfizzixteach There is PLENTY of research on this topic. But unless you feel it yourself it is hard to believe. My Russian friends back in Moscow told me many times that there was no antisemitism in Russia because they did not feel it. I felt it every day being a Jew.
How do we attract women to physics? The main step is to change the way we teach, create a community in our classrooms, remove competition, let improve work without punishment and lots more- will say later.
A cool greeting card for the holidays. The phenomena involved are surface tension, buoyancy, reflection, refraction and LEDs. Happy holidays to all! #Ilovephysics
Balancing a penny on a coat hanger and spinning it - great example of circular motion! How she gets it to stay on there while it slows down is beyond me.
If you are using College Physics: Explore and Apply and plan to teach Nuclear Physics chapter (29), please send me an e-mail to get three corrected pages in that chapter, they are fixed in the e-book, [email protected]#iteachphysics
https://t.co/VwQ5BeYOtj This is our classic ISLE two-in one application experiment: use the two experiments to determine the coefficient of kinetic friction between the table and box. Students learn to revise models. #iteachphysics#modphysics
I posted a video yesterday to figure out that the energy of an isolated system is constant. In this case it was just mechanical. But if you take small marble, a longer track and make it U-shape you can find how much mechanical energy is converted to internal. #iteachphysics
Here is a very useful video if you want your students to test whether energy in an isolated system is constant. Simple to recreate but very elegant. Enjoy. https://t.co/AKtNXx8BwP #iteachphysics#modphysics
