1. Failing to repay a loan.

2. Breach of a contract.

3. Refusing to unlock your phone at police checkpoint.

4. A landlord and tenant dispute that is purely civil.

5. Refusing a marriage proposal.

6. Ending a relationship.

7. Demanding your unpaid salary.

8. Refusing to join an association.

9. Adopting a new religion.

10. A disagreement over ownership of land without violence.

11. Requesting a refund for goods or services.

12. Refusing to accept or give bribe.

13. Refusing to enter into a business deal.

7 LEGAL DOCUMENTS YOU SHOULD NOT LET A NON-LAWYER PREPARE FOR YOU IN NIGERIA

That friend who “knows how to write agreements” may mean well — but some legal documents are not ordinary pieces of paper.
Under Section 22 of the Legal Practitioners Act, certain legal instruments are reserved for legal practitioners when prepared for reward.

These include:

1️⃣.... Deed of Assignment – especially for transferring interests in land.
2️⃣.... Deed of Conveyance – used to transfer interests in property.
3️⃣.... Deed of Gift – particularly where an interest in land is being transferred.
4️⃣.... Legal Mortgage – don't let someone copy a template and use it for your property.
5️⃣....Probate/Letters of Administration documents – estate matters require proper legal handling.
6️⃣...Court processes – documents prepared for proceedings in a court of record are not something to casually hand over to a non-lawyer.
7️⃣... Other instruments affecting interests in land – because one wrong clause can cost you millions.

Important: This does NOT mean that every transaction in Nigeria legally requires a lawyer to be present.

The point is that the law restricts certain legal document-preparation activities, particularly when done for reward.

Before you sign any serious legal document, don't just ask: “How much is the document?”
Ask: “Who prepared it, and what exactly am I signing away?”

One signature can create a legal problem that costs far more than the lawyer's fee.
