🎉🎉 a fantastic win after a solid 5 years of campaigning for this! This campaign has been won by groups of 350 volunteers around Aotearoa who have showed up outside @KiwibankNZ branches for years to call for our banks to take climate change seriously. We did it!!!
WIN!!!
We've just won our people-powered campaign calling for New Zealand's first fossil free bank.
@KiwibankNZ has announced a policy that rules out any future lending or investment in fossil fuels. This makes them the first bank in New Zealand to commit to being Fossil Free!
I’m gutted to hear about Rod Oram’s passing. He was an effective, principled journalist and a humble leader and advocate for the environment. He was instrumental in the Anglican Church divesting from fossil fuels and shared so much wisdom with 350 Aotearoa. Love to Lynn & family
We are recruiting a new Co-Director to join 350 Aotearoa 🤗
Our ideal candidate will have a passion for growing the climate movement and has a strong commitment to climate justice. Know someone who'd be a great fit? Tag them below or send them this link.

We've just delivered a statement of concern to the Vietnamese Embassy in Wellington, protesting the arrest of climate activist Hoang Thi Minh Hong. We’re calling for the release of Hong Hoang, and four other Vietnamese climate change activists who have been unfairly detained.
It’s my birthday and I am going to share some good news. Since my amendment to remove library fines has been in place and promoted, we have had a 48% increase in teenagers who have and use a library card. This is why we do this and ka rawe @wcl_library
We constantly hear about inflation and how NZ's cost of living crisis is ruining lives. But did you know excess corporate profits are driving inflation? We're calling on the government to impose a windfall profit tax on the Gentailers!

Chuffed to say I make my career debut on @FairGoNZ in about two minutes.😊 This is with a broadcast version of our digital doco on Uber, we put up earlier today. Thank you, Fair Go!
The longer version, below, also contains great tax analysis from @Trabaq

A sorry story about the ETS, emissions pricing, agribusiness, and the politicians who taught an industry that it is far cheaper to invest in lobbying than emissions reductions.
Coal boilers in schools, hospitals and universities will be switched for cleaner energy - but nearly 1000 state-owned organisations remain reliant on other fossil fuels, with no funding from government to transition, despite its self-set target looming.

A very powerful letter from 100 well-off NZers saying they would be happy to pay more tax, and that the system should ensure everyone in their position does so. "We recognise tax as a shared contribution to our collective success."

Final results for Wellington City Council show two stand out wins:
✅ Tory Whanau got more votes than the next two candidates together (the Mayor and an MP);
✅ Tamatha Paul got more first preferences than *the next three* candidates together.
Just absolutely massive mandates.
BREAKING: Preliminary vote reports have been released for Wellington City Council and Nīkau Wi Neera has taken the lead in the Māori Ward.
He leads Matthew Reweti by 5 votes but will probably expand that lead with special votes.
Tory Whanau: "Now is the time for a Green mayor because we're in a climate crisis. Wellington obviously agreed with that."
What will climate action look like? Whanau says she's got a mandate for high-density housing and public transport.
✅ Special voting papers can now be collected from Te Pokapū Hapori Community Centre on Manners Street, plus the Johnsonville, Newtown, Karori, and Kilbirnie Libraries. Opening hours can be found on our website: https://t.co/HBlXz9N4Dt
No, school strikers who fly aren't hypocritical.
Unilateral behaviour change and individual responsibility are fossil fuel industry propaganda, not genuine solutions to the climate crisis. #nzpol
