Ieri Total ha perso una causa contro Greenpeace, per un rapporto che contestava i numeri sulle emissioni dichiarate dall'azienda oil&gas francese.
Numeri dei petrolieri: 455 milioni di tonnellate di CO2 l'anno. 
Numeri del rapporto: 1,6 miliardi di tonnellate di CO2.
I numeri manomessi sulle emissioni sono più pericolosi delle emissioni stesse. I consigli di amministrazione di venti, trenta aziende stanno costringendo l'umanità a camminare in fila indiana accanto a un baratro, e allo stesso tempo dicono: «Tranquilli, c'è ancora spazio, vedete che non cadete». 

(«E comunque, nel caso cadiate, noi non ci saremo più, quindi che farete? I vostri figli verranno a sputare sulle nostre tombe?»). 

Il greenwashing è questo inquinamento: truccare l'indicatore della velocità, pensi di andare a 120 km/h in autostrada, ma in realtà sono 200, 250, 300.
Total voleva che il rapporto fosse cancellato. Proprio cancellato. 
Ieri il tribunale ha dato torto a Total, gli ha detto: voi siete pazzi. Questa, la Francia, è una democrazia. Il rapporto resta lì. 

La CO2 non si vede, non si annusa, non si tocca, ci giochiamo il futuro della civiltà sulla trasparenza di un gas invisibile. Questa invisibilità rende le regole della democrazia uno strumento di sopravvivenza, perché solo queste ci permettono di sapere quanto siamo vicini o no al baratro.
Per esempio: questi sono i progetti di sviluppo petrolio e gas in cantiere dal 2022.
Tradotto: hey umani, secondo i nostri esperti c'è spazio, quindi ci avviciniamo un altro po' a quel baratro profondissimo.
I più interessanti sono in rosso: progetti di ampliamento fossile di aziende che hanno già l'obiettivo di zero emissioni.
Tradotto: smetterò di drogarmi, ma intanto compro il DOPPIO della droga, che non si sa mai. L'unica cosa che ci può salvare da quei venti, trenta consigli di amministrazione che si venderebbero il futuro della specie, figli compresi, per una cedola trimestrale è una democrazia che funzioni straordinariamente bene in ogni suo pezzo: parlamenti, partiti, società civile, tribunali, scienza, stampa. Senza istituzioni democratiche, ci restano solo i consigli di amministrazione.
