More than anything else I've written, Mornings in Jenin is the one that captured people's imaginations. It has sold over 1.5 million copies around the world, in 30 languages (not including a few more languages that were pirated).

But The Blue Between Sky and Water also has a special place in my heart. It is the only one set in Gaza, the only one with the sense of the magical realism that so many of us understand from the way our grandmothers moved through superstitions, amulets, and stories of djinn.

In all my novels, I've not only drawn on our history and heritage, research and personalities I've encountered, but also on my own life. In Mornings, there's a chapter where the protagonist lived part of my life that I spent in a Jerusalem orphanage. In The Blue, I did the same for one of the characters, whom I placed in my life during the years I spent in foster care in the United States.

All of my books revolve around the lives of women. Palestinian women. There are many male characters, but they're always secondary. I didn't intend that, but seeing my stories come out the way they do has also taught me about my own inner world—one that revolves around the women who raised me, and the one I raised; a world that is fiercely Palestinian; that loves life and values integrity and authenticity more than anything else.

There are still efforts to shut my books down by people working publicly and privately to pressure my publisher. But for now, the books will be re-released into the world with these beautiful new covers and introductions by two brilliant writers I admire: Maaza Mengiste and Fariha Róisín.

O FC Barcelona condena o uso desproporcional da força contra nossos sócios e torcedores durante os incidentes ocorridos ontem nos arredores do estádio Martínez Valero, antes da partida contra o Elche, pela LaLiga.
