@CaribouCoon@PanelJunkie Were the two movies similar in any way? Cult classic just seems so insanely broad to me. Like when I Google it the films that come up include Rocky Horror, Fight Club, Blade Runner, Spinal Tap, The Room and Evil Dead 🤷🏻♂️
@TheToadKing@AnimEigo Thanks, I remember some fans were hoping for the higher fidelity magnetic soundtrack version some Japanese ones have released (but this is probably good news as I really couldn't afford to upgrade right now ;) )
Adapted from the LONG series of Louis XIV French historical romance books (and films) (13 books, 1957-1985 but this covers the first three.) A beautiful series from the great Toshie Kihara!

@rinreadsmanga I have about 40+ art books, mostly devoted to older shojo mangaka and they're kinda an obsession of mine (plus since I can barely read Japanese, they serve a purpose for me :P
@discotekmedia I remember when the series premiered and I was watching copies taped off Japanese TV and frankly it always looked "rougher" than the other shows of the time I was watching from Japanese airings.
@CaribouCoon Need to watch Ideon but I can't argue any of your choices, although the way my brain works I can't really pit long form tv serials next to movies.
@Xaichotic_@rinreadsmanga I hate terms like "relatable" and even "realistic." I will say, I personally did find the ending true to my own experiences to an extent. But I was a cis gay teen in the 1990s, in a huge school where NO ONE was out (and like Nakamura I wasn't out to anyone but myself.)
@RoVBookShelf Thanks for this!! I know Ikeda reportedly loved the film (I WANT to love it--Jacques Demy is one of my fave directors) but again this begs the question why they didn't just film it in Japanese...
