8. Baylor Promotions and Giveaways

Baylor Athletic department and Administration budgets and plans for scheduled give aways at games.  Baylor “Growl Towels” can be given in the color of the scheduled Black Out/White Out/Green Out games.  Avoid Gold Out or Section by Section Green and Gold outs.  At this time, they never work. Other giveaways should be planned. 

Give specific items for Youth to encourage parents to bring their children to the games. 

Work with the Magnolia team to encourage local Waco resident participation at football games. Potentially have free tickets for local Waco Civic organizations, disadvantaged groups, and local school districts to bring youth.  Chip and JoAnna and Magnolia team could organize with Administration to fill the berm. 

9. Create a Fan Engagement Committee 

A highly active and engaged fan base is imperative to a team’s success.  Coaches often cite than an energized fan base as a major reason that spur players to give their all and win games. Baylor administration should form a Fan Engagement Committee to “think out of the box” to drive attendance and fan participation at games.

Baylor Nation and Administration:

Below are a few ideas that should be up for consideration and support by the Administration to improve fan engagement for the Baylor Athletic game day experience.  

1.  Baylor Chant 

Baylor needs something more than just Sic’em Bears to get the fans and players hyped and engaged during Baylor athletic games.  We need to adopt a chant and I’ve written one below.  

Rip Rip Rah Rah 
Fight Fight Claw Claw 
Zip Bam Bust Through 
Tear’em up BU!

Repeat 

Repeat 

Then, Hey….Sic’em Bears. 

At games led on the field/court by a energetic fan /star/ athlete, the on field talent starts the repeated chant and then leads the crowd to get one side of field/court to scream back B-A-Y-L-O-R! And other side B-E-A-R-S that then leads to crowd to yell…Hey….Sic’em Bears. 

2.  Live Bears at Football Games

Let’s bring one of our live Bears to the Game. Let’s do it responsibly and safely.  Bring food and Dr. Pepper as treats for our bears.  Drive higher participation and sponsorship from Dr. Pepper as Waco is its birthplace. Give Chamber the back the role to be responsible for transportation and handling of bears during games with Administration support. 

3. Baylor Bear Bell

The Bear Bell was a fixture of Baylor games in the past.  While it was great to see the Bear Bell at homecoming football games the past few years, the Bear Bell should be at all home football games (maybe some basketball games too) and the Athletic department should promote it to the fan base in emails and communications.  On football game day after scores, video of Bear Bell should be on Jumbotron and Baylor Band should be aware and synchronized so that they play after the bell is rung and train horn blown. Sigma Chi manages Bear Bell upkeep and responsible as keepers of the Bell. Sigma Chi promotes internally, rallies other campus support, and athletic department helps by selecting a guest Significant Baylor Alumni/Star/Athlete as a guest bell ringer each week. 

4. Baylor Line Participation

Baylor freshman classes are growing yet the Baylor Line is diminishing at football games.  Lift attendance restrictions and provide incentives for freshman to participate.  To prevent injuries, create a system where the Baylor Line are lined up in rows for about the first 10 rows of freshman students with specific directions on where they are to jog across field to limit tripping/falls.  Have limited rows upfront where they get a brief head start from other rows to sprint across field.  If the Chamber need more help managing the Baylor Line, the Administration provides manpower support. Freshman sign electronic waivers through student online accounts. 

5. Alcohol Sales at Games

Let the season ticket holders, suite owners, and major sponsors vote and/or give input on whether responsible alcohol sales should occur at Football and Basketball games.  Primary stakeholders that annually support Baylor and attend games regularly should have significant say in outcome. 

6. Fraternity/Sorority/ Campus Organization Seating Blocks at Football Games

Create incentives for student campus fraternities and other organizations to have block seating at games. This was done back in the late 1980s and 1990s.  Not sure when the tradition stopped but this would drive organizations to attend games.  Give incentives for attendance and prizes such as giving largest block each week to get 5 sideline game day passes. 

7.  Free Long Distance Transportation to Football Games

Baylor Administration organizes rented charter buses to bring fans to Waco and back home from major cities such as Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, and any other large alumni cities. Make it a fun trip.
