The International Olympic Committee advised lifting all restrictions on Russian athletes.

I would like to remind everyone once again who still peddles fairy tales about ‘sport being free from politics’: sport has always been part of politics. Especially in dictatorships.

In 1936, the Berlin Olympics were not a celebration of sport, but a grand showcase for the Third Reich. The Nazis used the Olympic movement as a tool to legitimise their regime. The modern Olympic torch relay, which the IOC still presents as an almost sacred ritual, was first held at that very time — in Berlin in 1936 — and fitted perfectly into the Nazi propaganda machine.

Almost a hundred years have passed. Flags have changed, faces have changed, and the rhetoric has changed. But the essence remains the same.

Today, the IOC is reinstating the Russian Olympic Committee’s membership and effectively opening the door for Russian athletes to return to international sport. The very same Russia that is waging a genocidal war against Ukraine. The very same Russia that is killing Ukrainian athletes, destroying stadiums, schools, churches and entire cities.

In Russia, as in any dictatorship, there is no such thing as ‘neutral’ sport. There, an athlete is not just an athlete. They are an element of state propaganda, the military machine, the FSB, the army, government ministries, security service clubs and a television spectacle for Putin. For years, they have been part of the regime, receiving money, titles, apartments, positions and medals from it.

And yet, the International Olympic Committee, as a successor to Nazi traditions, punishes not Russia, but Ukrainian athletes for refusing to shake hands with representatives of this murderous country. Ukrainians were forced to act as if the war did not exist. They were even forbidden from honouring fallen athletes. As if Russian missiles were not killing their friends. As if hundreds of people from the sporting community had not died on the front line. As if Russians were simply ‘athletes with passports’, rather than citizens of a state that has come to destroy us.

I don’t care whether this is down to Russian money, fear of Russian blackmail, or simply the moral degradation of the international sporting bureaucracy. The result is the same: the IOC has once again sided with the fascists.

And this must be called out for what it is.

Ukraine must not ask, but demand. In no uncertain terms. Punishment and the removal of all responsible IOC members. No Russian athletes at international competitions. No ‘neutral’ flags. No half-measures. No return of Russia to world sport whilst Russia is waging war against Ukraine. It is also necessary to form a coalition of countries that, together with us, will boycott the Olympic Games until changes are made and the Olympic Committee is purged.

While Russia continues its campaign of terror against Ukraine, the IOC has chosen to turn a blind eye, lifting restrictions and effectively clearing the way for Russian athletes to return to international competitions. This is not neutrality, it is complicity.

Hundreds of Ukrainian athletes, coaches, and young talents have been killed or robbed of their Olympic futures because of Russia’s aggression. Yet the IOC refuses to confront this reality.

At a moment when Russia persists in its assault on Ukraine, the priority cannot be to rub shoulders with the aggressor. It must be to reinforce isolation, uphold international law, and defend the integrity of sport.

Rewarding aggression only invites more of it.

Time to boycott the Olympics:

Committing genocide is something that the International Olympics Committee seems to like to reward, as it wants to include Russia in the 2028 LA games.

The IOC is a trash organization. It has just provisionally lifted its suspension on the Russian athletic program, paving the way for their bloodthirsty competitors to return to international play.

This means that instead of a small handful of ”neutral” athletes (many of them were not actually neutral) like we saw in recent events, a massive team of hundreds of bloodthirsty Russian athletes could soon be headed to the next summer games in LA.

It is a huge mistake and a stark reminder of what a trash organization the IOC really is. Russia is actively committing genocide in Ukraine and should face absolute isolation, not a red carpet.

If they are allowed to participate, people across Europe must take a stand. Time to boycott the events, and I will absolutely be choosing to do so myself

Meet Kirsty Coventry, the current President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Today on Tue Jul 7, under her leadership, the IOC lifted its ban on Russian athletes participating in the Olympic Games - a ban that had been in place since 2023 following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

This means Russian athletes will face no obstacles to competing at the 2028 Olympic Games. Commenting on the decision, Coventry said: “We don’t want to hold athletes accountable for the actions of their government.”

The decision comes after a series of heavy Russian attacks on Kyiv and across Ukraine, deliberately targeting civilians and destroying sports facilities.

Earlier, on February 12, 2026, it was Coventry who decided to disqualify Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladyslav Heraskevych from Olympic competition over his “Helmet of Remembrance,” which honored Ukrainian athletes killed as a result of Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Before that, she served as the Minister of Sport under the dictatorship of Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Mugabe famously called her his “Golden Girl” following her Olympic gold medal victories in 2004 and 2008.

He also awarded her a diplomatic passport and hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash rewards.

Хочу ще раз нагадати всім, хто досі розповідає казки про «спорт поза політикою»: спорт завжди був частиною політики. Особливо в диктатурах.

У 1936 році Олімпіада в Берліні стала не святом спорту, а грандіозною вітриною Третього Рейху. Нацисти використали олімпійський рух як інструмент легітимізації власного режиму. Сучасна естафета олімпійського вогню, яку МОК досі подає як майже сакральний ритуал, була вперше проведена саме тоді — у Берліні 1936 року — і чудово вписалася в нацистську пропагандистську машину.

Минуло майже сто років. Змінилися прапори, змінилися обличчя, змінилася риторика. Але суть залишилася тією самою.

Сьогодні МОК відновлює членство Олімпійського комітету росії і фактично відкриває двері для повернення російських спортсменів у міжнародний спорт. Тієї самої росії, яка веде геноцидну війну проти України. Тієї самої росії, яка вбиває українських спортсменів, знищує стадіони, школи, храми і цілі міста.

У Росії, як і в будь-якій диктатурі, немає «нейтрального» спорту. Там спортсмен — це не просто спортсмен. Це елемент державної пропаганди, військової машини, ФСБ, армії, міністерств, клубів силових структур і телевізійної картинки для путіна. Вони роками були частиною режиму, отримували від нього гроші, звання, квартири, посади і медалі.

І при всьому цьому Міжнародний олімпійський комітет, як продовжувач традицій нацистів, карає не Росію, а українських спортсменів за відмову тиснути руки представникам країни-вбивці. Українців змушували поводитися так, ніби війни не існує. Та навіть забороняли вшановувати загиблих атлетів. Ніби російські ракети не вбивають їхніх друзів. Ніби на фронті не загинули сотні людей зі спортивної спільноти. Ніби росіяни просто «атлети з паспортом», а не громадяни держави, яка прийшла нас знищити.

Мені байдуже, що це — російські гроші, страх перед російським шантажем чи проста моральна деградація міжнародної спортивної бюрократії. Результат один: МОК знову став на бік фашистів.

І це треба називати своїми іменами.

Україна має не просити, а вимагати. В ультимативній формі. Покарання і усунення всіх відповідальних членів МОК. Жодних російських спортсменів на міжнародних змаганнях. Жодних «нейтральних» прапорів. Жодних напіврішень. Жодного повернення росії у світовий спорт, поки росія веде війну проти України. Також необхідно створити коаліцію країн, які разом із нами бойкотуватимуть Олімпійські ігри до проведення змін і очищення Олімпійського комітету.
