Media and universities — captured by statist assumptions for a century — have lied to you about capitalism.
Not “gotten it wrong.” Lied. On the most important question in modern economic history: what actually causes crises.
The lie fits in one sentence: “Economic crises prove capitalism is unstable and the state must regulate it.”
The truth is the exact opposite.
1929. Official story: unregulated capitalism ran wild.
Reality: the Fed expanded the money supply 60% between 1921 and 1929, fueling a mechanical stock bubble. After the crash, the Fed then contracted the money supply 30%. A normal correction became a decade-long depression, worsened by price controls, tariffs, and New Deal interventions. Unemployment stayed above 15% until 1940. Countries that let markets adjust (Canada, Australia) recovered in three years.
Culprit: the Fed plus Roosevelt-era interventionism.
2008. Official story: deregulated Wall Street blew up the system.
Reality: the Community Reinvestment Act forced banks to lend to insolvent borrowers. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac bought subprime debt in bulk with an implicit Treasury guarantee – no private bank would have carried that risk otherwise. Greenspan held rates at 1% for four years. The SEC blessed fraudulent AAA ratings under a regulatory monopoly. The state was present at every stage.
Culprits: the Fed, Congress, Fannie/Freddie, the SEC.
The euro crisis (2010-2012).
Official story: Greece and Spain lived beyond their means.
Reality: the euro let Greece borrow at German rates with zero fiscal discipline. The currency itself — a political project defying monetary theory — manufactured the crisis.
Culprit: the European Commission and ECB.
The inflation surge (2020-2023).
Official story: Ukraine, COVID, supply chains.
Reality: the Fed printed $4.5 trillion in 18 months, the ECB €3.5 trillion, governments handed out checks with no productive output behind them. Money supply in the US rose 40% in two years. Inflation was mathematically locked in before it ever showed up in prices. The war was the excuse, not the cause.
Culprits: the Fed, the ECB, governments.
The pattern is identical every time: a bureaucrat distorts prices – rates, money, guarantees, regulation. Bad investment accumulates quietly for years. It explodes and hits savers and the middle class. Media blame “the market.” Universities produce the papers that justify more state power as the cure. The next crisis gets seeded.
This isn’t an accident. It’s an industrial cycle of state-manufactured crises, laundered by media and academia.
Why has the lie held for a century?
Because universities, media, and administration are all funded, directly or indirectly, by the state – and each has a structural interest in concluding that the answer to everything is more state. No publicly-funded academic writes that public funding is the problem. No subsidized journalist writes that subsidies corrupt journalism. No senior civil servant writes that the administration itself is the harm. The bias is not only ideological. It’s economic. Telling the truth means sawing off the branch they’re sitting on.
That’s a hundred years of a lie that was never — could never be — seriously challenged from inside the institutions that produce it.
The age of AI can finally change that.
Javier Milei is already showing us how it’s done.
They told us nothing grows here.
We planted anyway.
We do not conquer the desert. We learn to dance with it.
What "impossible" thing are you quietly building right now?
