I haven’t been posting at all but just wanted to give an update on my new job: flexible hours, hybrid work, and love that I still get to work with kids ☺️ I’ve been getting a lot of training on college app essays — any teachers interested in a fall unit on this?
I voted NO on two gun control measures in the House today. I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment and will do everything I can to oppose gun grabs from the far Left.
@MarcusLuther6@JoshKunnath@cultofpedagogy Totally not a bad thing at all but unless a lot of cultural and societal systems change, an A will always just be the ultimate goal for a lot of students 😕
@JoshKunnath@cultofpedagogy I would use a four point one when I want to give students detailed feedback on formatives like drafts, so they can see how to move forward in different areas. Single point for a summative.
@JoshKunnath@cultofpedagogy I think single point is fine for certain assessments, but I don’t think there should be a mysterious level above the criteria like exceeding expectations. It only makes it frustrating for students to wonder what that might look like.
@singfourlife @TheReelRandom I just left my pension contribution alone and I think it’ll come out to $900/ month when I turn 62. Definitely not enough for retirement so I need to figure that out!
Just accepted a job offer to be a College Admissions Strategist 🥳 Super excited that I still get to work with kids but also have more flexibility to recharge and REST. For all the Ts out there who are thinking about leaving the classroom, here is your sign. You deserve more!
Turning Red was sooo cute and sweet. I loved all the themes esp exploration of identity and managing our emotions. That movie critic who said he wasn’t the target audience must not have friends or family 👍
But this week I posted an article of the week with discussion Qs on refugees in Ukraine who are facing racism: https://t.co/2o1ibcaHfR. I hope that it can provide some space for students to think about and process the world around them.
For Ts who haven't discussed Russia and Ukraine yet, I feel you. There is a sense of tremendous responsibility while also concern about how to address it sensitively and thoughtfully, without rebuke from parents or admin -- because let's face it. We're all worn pretty thin.
@heymrsbond In a profession that is overwhelmingly women 🙄🙄 and all the teacher moms that I know have had to breastfeed in bathrooms or risk having someone come into their classrooms.
