I’m a New Yorker.

These churches aren’t just buildings to me. They’re part of my heritage. They are where generations were baptized, married, buried, and where families turned in their darkest moments to worship God.

Watching historic houses of worship burn fills me with anger, grief, and a determination to see them protected. If these fires are the result of criminal acts, those responsible should be found, prosecuted, and held fully accountable.

We protect museums. We protect monuments. We should protect the houses where people gather to worship God with the same seriousness.

New Yorkers deserve answers. Our churches deserve protection. Our heritage deserves better.
