@jk_rowling@Keri_J_Russell JK, please also raise awareness re voyeurism. The perpetrators (almost exclusively male) will have more opportunity in mixed sex spaces. I've been a victim of this. Victims are mostly women. It hardly ever gets talked about & it's devastating.
@RNGem1@Gaynotqueer1 Fair. I did see one page from the book where a girl said she didn't want to wear a dress; she wanted to be a doctor. That struck me as odd because it seems to present those as mutually exclusive concepts. Can't someone wear dresses and be a doctor too?
@BeTheChange_26@Gaynotqueer1 They did mention its not just trans boys, the book should be targeted at bio girls who just don't like dresses either. It doesn't sound like it's telling them "no dress = boy"
@d78930305@Frances_Coppola There is ample evidence that males pose a threat to women's safety, and without basing the exclusion criteria off sex, here's no way to insure male free spaces. Predatory males have made use of this loophole and will continue to do so if it's not closed.
@BadWritingTakes There are two distinct sexes, which is why there are only two types of cross sex hormone treatments prescribed to people who wish they were the other sex.
@RosaZambonini I think filming him was not cool but voyeurism is a crime overwhelmingly committed by males and the perpetrator is usually not known to the victim. Much easier in mixed sex spaces. Getting rid of safeguards will increase this kind of crime.
@_celia_bedelia_ It's a powerful predicting variable when you look at crime though, so it does matter. Males overwhelmingly commit sex crimes, females are overwhelmingly the victims. It matters in some contexts and you need to be able to define it to tackle the issue effectively.
@d78930305@Frances_Coppola It's a safeguard which removes the opportunity so more would occur if single sex was no longer a thing. You don't stop locking your doors at night because some people are still going to be burglars.
@Cookieurch@Ginger_Tucci Hardly a stretch - voyeurism is a v common sex offence. Many instances don't get reported either because a lot of people never discover they were victims of it, due to the nature of the crime. Just explaining why single sex spaces matter.
@micheal_olainn sure, if you have stats supporting that so many violent and sexual crimes are committed by TERFs that you need space protecting you from them. Like, idk, females need with males?
@Delilah15707758@CaptInappropri8 there are less opportunities for it to happen when men are kept out. That's the point. You don't get rid of all safeguarding efforts because "someone might still do it." Do you not bother locking your doors because someone could still theoretically break in if they really wanted?
