Bn9, our latest limited edition, is a marriage of four American oak hogsheads from the Bunnahabhain distillery, distilled in 2014 and aged for more than seven years. A dram full of decadent chocolate and pleasant fruit, rounded out by some brine and dense smoke.

When we launched Elements of Islay in 2006, it was decided early on that no bottles in the range should carry an age or vintage, as we believe that the most important element when choosing a whisky is the flavour.

Did you know that the vast majority of Islay whisky is tankered away, filled into casks and stored on the mainland? Only a couple of distilleries on Islay actually mature the majority of their spirit on the island. #IslayWhisky #FactOfTheDay

Islay is the fifth-largest Scottish island, with an area of 239 square miles, running 25 miles from north to south, and 15 miles from east to west.

Whisky is an ideal cocktail ingredient – just think of the classic cocktails that use whisky as its base, such as the Manhattan, Sour and Rob Roy. Using peaty whisky in a cocktail adds smoky depth, adding layers of complexity.

Warm and leathery with thick-cut bacon, seashore campfires and roasted fruit. Layers of smoke and dark-chocolate limes intertwined with softer lemon oil and barbecue sauce, with hints of roasted spices and barrel char.

‘Ln’ stands for Loch Indaal & comes from Bruichladdich distillery -a heavily peated expression (more than 50ppm), combining first-fill bourbon cask sweetness with rich peat smoke.

Elements of Islay gets its name from the smoky, elemental character of Islay whiskies. We’ve used a letter and number naming system on the labels to denote the distillery and batch of each bottling, also alluding to the periodic table of ‘elements’.
