Expanding earned release credits in AZ is good policy that will safely reduce the prison population and save taxpayers $1.5B over the next decade. It's not too late for #azleg to act this year. Read more abt the benefits of reform from @_jimrounds and me. https://t.co/eSdC6TLFNk
Because asserting your rights shouldn’t lead to a harsher sentence. Not to mention ppl in AZ already serve some of the longest sentences in the country because most have to serve 85% of sentence.
🚨BREAKING: in Maricopa County, Arizona, if people accused of crimes assert their constitutional rights during plea bargaining, prosecutors retaliate with a “substantially harsher” offer--their words, not ours.
Today, we sued to stop it. @ACLU@ACLUaz

The #azleg House just passed #SB1064 with overwhelming bipartisan support! This is an important bill #forArizonans to begin to address the incarceration crisis and make communities safer.
NOW: RAPP Leader Roz is rallying outside @BrianKavanaghNY’s office to demand he co-sponsor Elder Parole. Her husband’s blanket is draped over her. He died in prison just 3 weeks ago. He was 67 years old. Elder Parole would have allowed him a chance at release 8 years earlier.
House appropriations hearing on ICE's budget priorities is starting now. Grateful to @RepRoybalAllard for starting out by expressing alarm about the *increasing* #s of people in ICE detention, especially during the pandemic. #s are approaching 17,000. https://t.co/1fbQY1gXji
Great news from Mississippi! Governor @tatereeves signed #SB2795! This bill will expand parole eligibility and begin to address the state’s dangerously high prison population and help restore hope to thousands of incarcerated Mississippians and their families. #msleg
"We have an opportunity to join other states in adopting common sense reforms that prioritize rehabilitation, crime prevention, and support for crime survivors like me." AZ lawmakers can make communities safer by supporting earned credit reform (SB 1064) https://t.co/q1VM2bC9u9
Media outlets across New York played a major role in generating the fear and backlash that resulted in rollbacks to #bailreform. Since the rollbacks took effect, the number of people held in jail pretrial has increased by 31%. @FWDus report explains: https://t.co/dqAEGaEUFK

Elder Parole and Fair & Timely Parole will begin to address the worsening aging crisis in NY prisons, reverse troublingly low parole release rates, and chip away at racial bias in parole decision-making. The time is now for #ParoleJusticeNY
#msleg should pass broad parole reform to safely reduce the prison population and save taxpayers $1B over the next 30 years. Read more about the benefits of parole reform from @alesha_camille and @roundsconsult https://t.co/KFVlspRgk3
BREAKING: #HALTsolitary just passed out of the Senate! This long overdue legislation will end the torture of solitary confinement across NY and create safer interventions. We urge @NYGovCuomo to sign this critical bill into law. @NYCAIC@SalazarSenate @carlheastie @andreascousins
From opinion contributors Jim Rounds and Elissa Johnson: Expanding early release credits would safely reduce the prison population, better prepare inmates for life after prison and save Arizona a ton of cash. https://t.co/WDhyBOMwJz
More than 1,500 Louisianans are serving time due to a non-unanimous jury conviction--a relic of Jim Crow. We must #EndJimCrowJuries and restore justice for all.
I lived in Mississippi for nearly a decade as I started my career and love it and the people as much as the state I grew up in. @DavidDTSS's words resonated deeply for me.

Mississippi prisons are in crisis because of harsh sentences and parole laws that offer no way out. Call #msleg lawmakers and urge them to ensure more people will become parole eligible by expanding parole and habitual reforms by March 10th. https://t.co/RaqRdnllBP #WeAllPay
New York needs parole justice. Lawmakers should continue to advance these important reforms this session. Read @rodnationn's statement about the latest 👇🏽👇🏽👇🏽

Bringing technology into communications b/t incarcerated ppl and their loved ones should expand access and accessibility for them and always be free. Using it to deprive ppl of precious keepsakes like letters and cards is just cruel.
